I'm told that it's a better deal to buy a PS3 rather than a Blu-Ray player because they are about the same price but you at least get to play games too on the PS3.

Question though.....can you play regular DVD's on the PS3 too or just Blu-Ray discs?

^ Except play ps2 games... the PS3 is also one of the best quality blue ray players for its price... if not the best.

I think that's only true for the slim model.

My PS3 plays my old PS2 games and that was one of the big selling points for me since I still play some of my PS2 games because I enjoy them so much. Best system ever.

PS3 is a great bluray player and plays dvds.

In fact, depedning on YOUR system settings you can upconvert your dvd viewing to near HD quality.

I can play PS2 games and am building a nice little blu ray collection as well. Great system..worth every penny at this price point. A lot of us bought ours for a lot more earlier in the systems life..I think I paid around 600 with an extra controller, usb charger, and headset thrown in.

As long as you have a HDTV and HDMI cables, you just pop in your dvd... It's that simple.

The PS3 is THE best blu-ray player. It gets updated in terms of firmware more than any other player on the market...

haha, there are options during playback.....You can pause and hit Triangle button and it's one of the options and under the PS3 Menu options also. I would have to mess around to find exactly though!!!

Just make your first blu ray purchase a Matthew Mcconaughey movie where he takes his shirt off(all of them). In HD she will be sold. Atleast that would work on my fiance, but she is a blu ray junkie already so I don't have an issue.

Hmm, maybe it's because I have a Sony Bravia hdtv, but I don't have to mess with any settings to upconvert my dvds.. It automatically detects them and does it on it's own.

there are a few options to optimize for movie watching and PS2 game play. Push the triangle button and there are options there....sound,video, during play back.
