"@BFeldmanESPN ESPN Mag poll of 50 blue-chip recruits: 28% said they'd take $50,000 if offered by a recruiter if no one would find out."

Here's one of those ethics in sports question. What would you do if you were a blue-chip football recruit? Frankly, I am surprised the number is only 28%. I have to think that as an 18 year with not a pot to pee in, I would be very tempted to take the money. What say you?

not trying to make too much out of this argument, but I'm pretty sure the color of your skin in this instance would have to be taken into account

Obviously I would take the money. Hypothetical situations are easy, because you can just say 'no one would find out'.

I should have made a poll. Like Mucalum, a large number of these guys were not honest in their answers.

Exactly, Mulva.

When you qualify the question with 'no one will find out', it's much easier to say yes.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say, but I take offense to that.

I don't think I would take the money unless my dream school wasn't interested in me.

I would guess the percent would be higher, but in some cases it depends upon economic factors. It is the same way how players from wealthy familes (Luck, Manning, etc.) are more likely to come back for senior year when they could have turned pro.

wtf does that mean darby?

mucalum is right, it should be damn near 100%. These guys were afraid their names would be made public. Why would anyone not take money if nobody would ever find out? Only if $50k isn't a meaningful sum to you.

It's a sad commentary that people who obviously can be bought for a relatively small sum think that means everyone can.

I personally would not do it because I wouldn't feel right knowing I broke a rule and if it would ever come out it would be embarrassing to my school and tarnish any legacy I'd have(assuming I would be good, obviously). That's not to say I would go out of my way to make sure I never broke a rule, but in one like this I wouldn't do it. There's a lot more to life than money.

If no one would find out, why not? Supply and demand. Capitalism at its finest. Damn the NCAA rules.

I'm sure I probably would if I knew no one would find out. It's not like you are breaking the law, therefore the guilt level would be low. Oh, and I'm white :)

I think mine is as well. I know it's valued a hell of a lot higher than $50K. :)

I would imagine $50k is a very large sum to any 18 year old.

Why take it if you had to bury it in the back yard until you graduate. You buy $50,000 of bling or a $50,000 car. It's the same as putting a neon sign on your back that says, "I sold my soul to the devil."

That is always funny. I would take it. Lets face it, the guys normally do not get caught until they are eligible for the draft anyway so who really cares lol. Right and wrong, really? They are going to get paid a lot more than that in a few years and they are legal adults so I can not see the ethics argument.

I just asked the 17 white people in my class if they like money and they all said yes.

So there you have it. If you are White, you are 100% likely to take the money. If you are other, it is unknown.

I'm 1/2 black and wouldn't take the money, so can we say that 25% of black people WOULDN'T take the money?
