I love my Rocky boots. I would recommend the drive to Nelsonville to buy them at the outlet. I paid less than 50 for the pair I bought 7 years ago and still wear all the time.

Not sure if it's worth the ~3 hour trip. Is there anything else around there to make the trip worthwhile? I should say, is there anything that my wife would enjoy so I wouldn't have to make the trip solo? :)

Your Wife would enjoy Rockys Outlet store too, Much more than just Boots, Also Nelsonvilles Town Square is about 200 yards away. And if You find a pair you like check the internet first , Ijust bought My Rocky Bearclaw 3D online and saved 70 bucks

Justin, take it from the redneck on this site...my opinion might not be worth much on most threads, but I know boots lol! Rocky boots are by far your best choice. If you buy them, it'll take you about 2 times wearing them to decide they're the only brand of boots you'll ever own. They're a little more expensive than some other brands, but they're well worth it. I have one pair that's 12 years old, and one pair that's 6 years old, and both of them are still as good as the day I bought them.

I also work in the construction field and wear my work boots six days a week. I recently switched to a brand of boots called Irish Setters. I believe they are owned by Red Wing. My all purpose boots are steel toed and waterproof. They have a nice softer sole, so when you need grip on a roof or other hard surface you get nice traction. I also have a pair of insulated Irish Setters, they are pretty nice boots.

For really wet working conditions I break out the Tingley's. LOL

I was just going to mention Irish Setters. Definitely a pretty good value boot. All joking aside (cough cough Snot Bubbles) these are the Outdoor boots that Red Wing markets. That could be another avenue you could look at Justin.

I think plenty of others would agree with what I said. At no point did I say that Red Wing sucks. I just said that the boots that Red Wing make have more of a "work" focus. The outsoles are made to be oil and slip resistant at worksites/workplaces and have very small lugs.

Rocky, Irish Setter, Cabela boots, Timberland, Danner, etc have boots that are made specifically for the outdoors. They have deeper lugs that are designed to provide stability while hiking, hunting, yada yada yada

Sorel is popular up here. I wear them when I walk to work (it gets down to -40 here in winter). I was just down in Cordova where it rains all winter, and they did great down there in the muck.

I was watching Alaska State Troopers, seems like it is common for a lot of people to walk everywhere even when it is super cold. Why so?

A few factors play into all the walking. Gas is crazy expensive, just owning a car costs a lot of money (the cold is really hard on them), and walking just seems to be part of the culture in most cities. Given a choice, most people will walk before they drive.

As an aside, the AK State Troopers show and the new one Flying Wild Alaska are easily the best "Alaska" shows on TV. I wish more people watched them over the garbage known as Deadliest Catch and Gold Rush Alaska.

Yeah I could probably stop by the store for a little while. It would be best if it was around 12:30. That way I could eat my lunch first

My everyday boots have a typical lifespan of nine months regardless of brand. I like the $130ish price of the Setters instead of the $180ish price of other brands. But that is just my opinion, I think boots are like a lot of other them things, everyone has a different favorite and they stick with their brand.
