This broke yesterday. If true, al Jazeera has acquired around 1,600 internal documents regarding Israel and Palestinian meetings and discussions from 1999-2010.

So far the documents show the Palestinians giving up most of East Jerusalem and other settlements to the Israelis, but the Israelis still refuse to budge.

Of course both sides deny the documents are real, and the State Department won't say until it reviews them.
Still, if true, shows so far, that both sides do not want peace, do not care for peace and are not willing to make those final steps toward peace.

ptown - Do you find this shocking that they'd rather fight than kiss and make up? I don't. They've been killing Jews and Palestinians for as long as Israel's been a country.

Not really.
We have periods of peace between the two sides, but no one wants to make that last step. The closest was 1999 and Camp David, but conflicting reports put blame on both sides.

I'll wait to see if this is authentic. I don't trust al Jazeera AT ALL.

Really?
al Jazeera was one of the first and the only ones really reporting on the uprising in Tunisia two weeks ago.
While our media was focusing on crap like entertainment news and domestic political BS, they were reporting on an uprising and overthrow of a tyrant in a Middle Eastern country. They also have spot on reporting on the situation in Lebanon (where Hezbollah is poised to take over the government throwing out the Western backed government).

I'm 50/50 on whether the documents are real, but I will say they are not popular in Palestine.

Why not?

Also, can someone remind me again why we support Israel without much question?

Gives the US one true ally in that region. I don't agree with it, but that's just the way it is.

So are we just going to buy everything for Iraq and Afghanistan for the next 50 years too so that we can have an "ally"? Maybe we can pay for an Iraq-Iran conflict and an Afghanistan-Pakistan conflict or something on top of all the Israel-Palestine shit.
