I don't know why but I laugh hysterically every time I see this.

Nope, unfortunately I have been on the other end. Not ever easy but sometimes very necessary.

I have never been fired and hopefully never plan to be. And O-Trap don't feel bad I understood Belly as well. Although the meme Dlazz brought up also came to my mind when reading Belly's quote.

I have a buddy that got caught donkin his bosses wife in the warehouse. The boss screamed them to get the fuck out of his warehouse.

The next day when he called in to tell the secretary to mail his last check, the boss talked him into having a beer and talking it out.

It ends up with the boss throwing the wife outa the house and divorcing her and the guy buying into a partnership in the business.

He is still gainfully employed at this place making 6 figures a year.

Yes. Was fired from my first real job working at a radio station (I did mostly news reporting and copy writing, and some studio work).

The reason I was let go: They wanted to hire someone with a deeper voice for the programming they wanted to do (mostly taped music programs, very laid back, etc.)

I also was laid off from a job I truly loved because the company just wasn't making it in a very volatile market (medical malpractice insurance). That was a terrific job, good salary and benefits, and great people. I would have retired from there if I could have.

The radio station manager who fired me got really torqued when I filed for unemployment benefits. He had a god complex and didn't understand how someone could do such a thing to him. As it turned out, I didn't even have to collect...the newspaper in the same town found out I was let go and hired me immediately because I knew the community and had already done some news work for the radio station.

Yes they can. I work in a restaurant as well. They can send you home for being sick. They can fire you the next day for not coming in for being sick, even if they know you're sick, if you don't have a doctor's excuse. Almost all restaurants do it. And the kicker is: I'm a server...my restaurant, and MOST restaurants, you can only get health insurance through the company if you average a minimum number of hours per week (usually it's 30-32). However, they won't schedule you enough hours to average that, so you aren't eligible for insurance. BUT, you have to go to the doctor if you're sick, or they'll fire you. So you can't get insurance because of your work, but you have to have it or you'll get fired. Sounds great, doesn't it? So that's why every time I'm sick, I show up at work. That way they have to decide whether to let me stay and cough/sneeze/puke or whatever all over their guests, or send me home sick. If you put it on them to send you home everyday you're sick, they can't fire you. But the first day you don't show up w/o a doctor's note, you're screwed.

got fired from a grocery store when I was like 19. I had been working there for 2 years, but took a summer job at a factory to make some more money. I got called to cover a Sunday morning shift, which sucked but said I'd do it. Long story short, get a call Saturday night offering free NASCAR tickets, call of on Sunday....go get my schedule for the next week and I'm not on there...no paperwork no nothing just not on there

when i worked at fast food in high school, my boss did this to a couple people as well. its more of a "forcing you to quit" tactic.
