Many things in that article stood out to me, but none like this:

Kasich is spoiling for some fights. One will be with the nursing home industry, which will resist state attempts to save money by helping the elderly stay at home

This is the BEST case scenario for many people, if not 2/3. And if it's cheaper to help people within their own homes, then that makes it a WIN-WIN situation. Obviously there are folks cannot stay at home alone for multiple reasons, but for the most part, I would guess that isn't the case. It's just that with today's lifestyle, nobody thinks that it's their business to do it, they don't have the time (or want to make the time), they don't think they can and they just don't want the responsibility - and the responsibility is great. I mean let's face it, our society is not comprised of the great/solid family units that it once was.
But anyways, I can understand why the nursing home community might not like this. But if you're in that industry to begin with because you're a kind and caring person who wants to help others - you know that staying at home is the best way possible for the majority of people.

Oh and one more thing. 19% of Ohio is one Medicaid? It really makes me wonder how much of that is fraudulent, along with SS, disability, WC, etc.

We definitely need it. We need to do away with all unions, public and private. That said, the people of Ohio are idiots and will put enough pressure on to make sure this doesn't pass, then blame Kasich when he has to raise taxes to balance the budget.

51%, while a majority, doesn't fit into what I would call "overwhelmingly opposed". You could probably get a job as a PR advance man for the GOP with that interpretation of the polling data.


I think Ohio needs to take the lead on this issue and be a "guinea pig", so to speak, for the rest of the country. If it works, Ohio and Kasich look like geniuses. If not, then everyone will know what to do. The way I see it, Ohio has nothing to lose.

Seems to me that he's following Christie's lead in this. Of course unions, teachers and otherwise, are going to be opposed to this. So were the folks from NJ, but they're starting to come around. Ohio is so deeply entrenched with its love affair with unions, that it's gonna be like breaking an addiction from heroin. But, they'll have to get over it or stay under it.

Let's hope they get over it.

No. There are certainly a lot of things that need changed about unions but they aren't entirely without purpose.

And we're going to need to raise taxes anyway.

We don't need to get rid of unions, we need union leaders who realize people made ridiculous promises with pensions and benefits. They lacked the fiscal foresight and will pay for it.

The government needs to be a lean machine, it's time for unions to accept that. Getting rid of unions is a too harsh a move, but lessening their power would go a long way.
