Back in 2008 I started riding the bus in to work for a while. When the gas prices went back down, I started driving the car again. If the gas gets up to $3.50, I might go back to COTA.

I already work 5 12's (and sometimes 6-8 on saturday). 4 10's would be ideal.

I drive my son 25 miles one way to get to school. Now that my daughter's in high school she's a little further of a drive ...about 32 miles. Each morning the round trip totals almost 65 miles. After including the trip to pick them up it's 130 miles minimum per day.

Work commute expenses are minor in our house compared to the transportation to school.

I would LOVE 4 day weeks. My boss lives down the street from our office so he will always be able to work 5 days without issue so I doubt it will ever happen.

why so far? I thought my 15 min drive was far. Why not meet them at the closest bus stop?

On average. Obviously the distance you drive to and from work and the amount of recreational drive you do outside of work will really determine how much you save in gas. I work two jobs. I walk to one, and the other is about a 10 minute drive, so I wouldn't save much. And the job I drive to I could probably do from home four days a week and only go into the office one day a week is gas got that expensive.

We reside too far away to have a bus transportation option. Only my resident school system could provide such transportation and they are only required to transport the kids so far. Their school is outside that distance.

I work 4 10s now. we have a weekend crew that does the 3-12s. Ive been trying to get on that shift for awhile now. Although we just found out that we are cut back to three 9 hour shifts and 1 10 hour shift starting next week. I dont like this cause they told us it could last for a few months grrrrrrrrr.

i didnt either for part of high school. Lived in district, then moved out but still went to same school. After I graduated, and before my sister got her license, she just met the bus driver at the closest bus stop to our house.

Yeah...that may not be so easy today. We are required to list our resident school district on the school registration forms. If that district is farther than the defined required distance to transport by the State the bus driver isn't going to let you on. I guess one could lie but I'm not comfortable doing that at all.

we had to fill out open enrollment papers but i thats weird if they wont let you on because you dont live in district. but then again, my school and town was real small and everybody knew everybody. Also helped that the bus driver my mom would meet to drop my sister off was the same driver I had from where we lived before.

They won't let someone on that they are not required to transport...nor should they in my opinion. We are the ones that chose to use a certain school and although we pay taxes to fund our local district we should *NOT expect that district to cover our transportation expenses if we choose to send our kids to a school some 30 miles away.

I work a 9-80 schedule and I love it
Work 9 hour days monday thru thursday.
On fridays one week work 8 hours the next I am off.
It's great

Haha....many people are already working 5 -10's. Still, even the option to work from home on Friday would be nice. This would give many people an hour or more (between commute and getting ready for work) to extra a day. You're at home so you can get a healthier lunch. Best part is the time and convenience allows people to sneak in some personal errands.

The worst part about working 50+ hours a week is everything is closed when you finish work. And it absolutely sucks to have to run errands on the weekend on top of those working hours.

That's what my employer has two shifts that work 4-10's M-Th and our weekend shift work 3-12's.

I workin the financial industry. Would love to do 10's or 12's but its never gonna happen for me. I am just thankful that we aren't open on Sat/Sun like most are.
