I guess it's pointless to try and figure out Al Davis but this seems like a head scratcher.

Yeah they missed the playoffs but overall it seemed like clearly a positive building year.

8-8 record
6-0 in the AFC West

after going 5-11 last year

It is sort of hilarious that Davis stuck with Cable after a poor season in which he had those assault allegations from an assistant coach...but then fires him after an improved season where he got a .500 record out of a team QB'd by Jason Campbell and Bruce Gradkowski.

I hope Cable gave the Crypt Keeper the same treatment he did his ex-wife/ex-girlfriend.

Nothing final yet.

All speculation at this point. Davis hasn't spoken to the public in 17 months, so there's really no way anyone can figure out what's going on with this situation.

As a Raiders fan, I hope we keep Cable. Oakland could have easily been 10-6 this year and in the playoffs if Janikowski makes a GW chip shot vs Arizona and Oakland doesn't have half their team injured vs San Francisco. Not to mention the Jacksonville game that Oakland royally let slip away. 8-8 was still a big leap for the team and it'd be a major set back to undergo another coaching change.
