I heard Schefter reporting this morning that there is a good chance the Browns might go after Marty Morningwig. For the love of God, PLEASE do not do this Browns. You would be better off keeping Man-gina over this do-do bird. Ughhhh

Why can't the Browns do anything right?

Why are you afraid he kick it if they won the coin toss in OT?

Only in Cleveland can someone (Holmgren) consider it a good idea to bring in a coach with a career record of 5-27 as a head coach to a team that desperately needs someone to instill a winning culture to the players.

They will take him about as seriously as someone would a 600 pound obese personal trainer giving diet tips.

Holmgren is going to lose the fan base if he does that, but he appears to have a tin ear when it comes to hearing the truth about how bad an idea this is.

Finding a way to hire Jon Gruden would set the fan base on fire, and if Holmgren has half a brain he will do any and everything he can to make it happen.

I swear to God, if they pickup John Fox I am going to punch someone. We can't be the place where Carolina Panthers come to die.

Why?

Gruden is the guy who took a perfect situation (the talent that won a Superbowl) and tore it to shreds in just a few years.

Throw in the fact that the Browns are starting over yet again, and I find nothing to get excited about.

Gruden will want that job, I believe.

Born in Ohio, went to college in Ohio.

Also has the history working with Holmgren.

I believe he also built the Raiders up.

Gruden won't have that same type of power anyway if he comes to Cleveland.

Gruden has also worked underneath of Holmgren before, so he may be OK with him having some of the power.

Things didn't end well in Tampa for him, but he did get them over the hump and won a SB which counts for something. Couple that with the fact he managed to take an abhorently bad Raiders franchise and got them deep in the playoffs (and it was his roster that he beat in the SB that next year) and the guy has a track record at least that people will respect.

We were rebuilding whether Mangini was fired or not because this roster does not have NFL talent save for a few positions. I would rather do it with a coach that has shown he can win, and will be on the same page with Holmgren as they are both West Coast offense guys, and will fill out the roster accordingly.

McCoy ran that at Texas and is very comfortable with it, and as I have said in another thread I think Gruden could groom him to be a Rich Gannon type quarterback as he also had a marginal arm but was super accurate and made good decisions.

It doesn't even have to be Gruden, but absolutely no more defense first coaches as we have had a decade of that now (Butch, Romeo, Mangini) and it hasn't worked. You need to be able to score points to win NFL games.

The NFL has changed since the days of Gannon though. You need a QB who can throw it all over the field to be elite in today's NFL.

Look at the leading rushers in the NFL this year: 6 of the top 10 rushers are not in the playoffs.

The NFL is a passing league.

You mean like the time Gannon passed for at least 3,500 yards in his first 4 seasons with the Raiders before getting old and banged up? Or how about the time he threw for over 4,600 yards? Doesn't sound like a passing team to me.... Quit spewing bullshit, and actually check your facts next time.
