Browns have no interest, from what I've heard.

Heckert is holding off as long as possible because he REALLY wants to see what he has. For instance, as far as the WR position goes, he wants to look at the Mitchell's, the Norwood's, the Haggerty's, etc to see if he has "something" there. If these guys step up and he goes out and spends money on a high profile free agent, they consider it "money wasted." Mangini didn't exactly give him a good template (playing the 400 year olds vs the young blood) to evaluate from. I think we're more likely to see additions in a few weeks when a boatload of players get cut.

The kid is having a solid camp from what I hear (reference his play in the article below) and is pushing hard to break into the line-up, possibly at RT. I could see a starting line-up of: Thomas, Greco/Lauvao, Mack, Lauvao/Greco, Braxton.

Very well could be the case. This group isn't afraid to throw the young guys to the wolves.

I was just reporting what I heard on All Bets Are Off today....didn't say they were going to get him. I am on board with what this front office is doing, a lot of people are questioning their plan but if you sit back and look at it....they know what they are doing and are spending the money wisely.

Greco and Braxton? Who knew the Browns would dip into Youngstown.

Abe Elam signed with Dallas and Blake Costanzo (some of that earlier LB "depth" I spoke of) signed with San Fran, I believe.

It's all good. I'm just saying if you hear rumors of "the Browns are targeting "insert name of any free agent over 27 years old or any 'name' free agent" I'd look at it with a jaundiced eye. This team is DEFINITELY targeting a youth movement. Hopefully it isn't a bowel movement.

ESPN just dished out their grades of post-lockout moves. No surprise the Browns got a D which is good for the worst in the AFC. I hope Heckert has a method to his madness, because at this point him and Holmgren sitting on their hands this offseason doesn't look very good.

Meanwhile the Bengals managed to snap up Donte Whitner today two a 2 year deal. Absolutely puzzling. I have this vision of Tom Heckert sitting in his office playing solitaire while other GM's actually attempt to make moves to better their teams.

Have faith man. Everyone wanted Whitner (myself included) but Whitner wouldn't have blended well with Ward in our secondary. It'll all come together eventually.

Apparently San Fran has emailed all the teams in the league saying that Taylor Mays is available. Wow.

And just read this... Holmgren in a radio interview in Seattle said the Browns have lost 331 years of age on their roster-Wow.

There's a SHOCKER! /sarcasm. There were all kind of red flags out there about Mays before the draft. Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane. Him and Brady Quinn would go well together.

We have to have faith in the Heckert and Holmgren. These guys have a plan that is different than what we expected. But they are sticking to it. If it works they will look like geniuses.

I like the plan, I'm all for not over paying for high priced aging Vets. That being said I thought we would have landed Ray Edwards or Joseph. Seems like it wasn't in the cards. I know I was always pissed that the Browns would draft a guy, then not play him (see Harrison for example) because they would sign an aging vet to fill the role (Jamal Lewis). Thus we never progreessed our home grown talent. If we had signed an Edwards, then perhaps Shread wouldn't see the field, or Skrine wouldn't see the field if we signed Joseph. Thus never knowing what we had in the kid we drafted. How many people we pissed because we were playing DA over Quinn? Give the young guys a chance to showcase their talents.

Thoguh we def need some LBer help. Our LBer core is a joke right now.

Wanna bet he winds up in Seattle? Good ol' Pete loves his former players. Who knows? Maybe eventually we'll see that '05 USC team in a Seahawks uniform, wouldn't that be somethin'?

I'll take that bet. Some bad blood between Pete and Mays going back to the draft.

Always thought Mays was better suited for outside linebacker in the NFL given his size....wouldn't mind seeing the Browns take a chance on that very notion. Young, talented, low-risk high-reward move to a linebacking core that lacks depth and playmakers.

Whitner wouldn't have helped this team.

Tom Heckert on @SiriusXMNFL: 'After first cuts, we're gonna bring a ton of guys in'. #Browns

Which means he's laying low, looking to grab the bargains.

Disagree completely, with reasons laid out previously in this thread. I don't think he was going to revolutionize the defense, but surely would've been an improvement over Mike Adams/Usama Young given his talent, background with Jauron, and familiarity with the defensive system. Alas, he's heading to the bay area now.

Hopefully his "TJ Maxx" approach to free agency works...
