Not surprised at all.
Agreed. I could understand his decision either way. He just has a good thing going at LSU and it seems like they should have a great team coming back next year.

Question for Michigan fans, would you support a Brady Hoke hire? I'm guessing the overwhelming answer will be no, but wanted to see what people who follow the program regularly think.

Not a Michigan fan, but Hoke seems to be a guy who's paid his dues, is very emotional, coached there for 8 years, and is an Ohio guy--which means he "gets it" when it comes to The Game. They need to get someone in there, and even though they whiffed on their top two candidates, Hoke seems like a good choice.

the UM coaching situaton has become a comedy of errors. i feel bad for them at this point because it seems as though the AD had NO plan what the hell he was/is doing.

I absolutely would.

Hoke is a Michigan man, a defensive minded coach and a pretty damn good recruiter. I support this move.

Not a UM fan but I damn sure would be behind this hire a lot more than I would have been behind RR.

I prefer a bigger name to take the Michigan job. Then again, Tressel was just this 1-AA guy when he took over the Ohio State program lol.

Basically the only people who didn't think that hire was retarded were people living within 50 miles of YSU at the time.

Mason was at the top of everyone's list that's for sure. We knew what a great job Tressel was doing at YSU obviously, but I would be lying if I didn't say I had reservations about his ability at Ohio State going into it. I've since laid those fears to rest. :D

Right now I think Michigan offered Les and he wanted to sleep on it. He made his decision this morning. The flight above was scheduled less than an hour after the Miles to Stay news broke.

I would think there would be a rebuild regardless of who came in. Why do you think Hoke = 5 and Miles would have been less?

I may be reading into it too much.

Miles could have won 8-9 next year and brought in good classes. Hoke will have no chance to salvage this year's class, have possible attrition that I don't think Miles would have had, and next couple classes would be sub par until they started winning games.

IMO...for 2011...

Miles = 8-9 wins
Hoke = 5-6

Not EVERYONE outside youngstown wanted Mason.

Thank God Ohio State did not hire him...would have been a disaster of RichRod proportions!!

The attrition thing I get, I could see losing a few guys that were RR guys, though I'm not sure that's entirely a bad thing given the overall talent RR has brought in. I think you might be jumping the gun a little on Hoke not being able to recruit well enough, true, this seasons class will be light due to the timing, but I think something could be salvaged by how he comes in.

I'm not saying do the Jim Tressel basketball speech, but along those lines. He needs to come in strong and play up the Michigan Man thing and prove he gets it to the fans/recruits. If he comes in ho hum and timid then I will agree about the 5 year plan.

Yeah, I would have hired Mason...I'd be homeless now too. It's worked out well.
