Obviously nothing is in stone yet, but this comes as a surprise to me. I would think that Weis enjoys being in the NFL where he has been successful. Will he run the style of offense like he did at Notre Dame or Urban Meyer's style. In my opinion, he needs to stick to what Meyer use to do. That traditional offense that Weis ran at Notre Dame will not work in the SEC.

He was sick of deferring to Haley in regards to the offense. I expect him to run a pro style offense.

Agree with Corso on this being a BAD hire. Weis ego and being a former head coach could cause issue's IMO.

I don't see how this isn't a huge step back career wise. Going from a pro OC that has his team in the playoffs to a college OC. Wow. I just don't think he'll fit in, in Florida.

First off, Corso is a moron. Really don't understand how he's still employed by ESPN. After Dick Clark last night, the interview with Paterno and Corso on Gameday looking like a fool, I regret watching TV over the last 12 hours.

Secondly, Weis was a very good offensive coach and a good recruiter. His problem was in a PR standpoint and not being able to develop talent. He can run his offense now and not have the pressure of a HC. I think it's a great hire.

He didn't do anymore then any other good offensive coordinator in college. And his play calling many a time was very suspect. HE likes to pass the ball too much. DIdn't fly in college all to well. And the recruiting is VERY questionable as well. I don't see as many blue chip recruits on ND that many thought there were.
Maybe it will be a good hire, maybe it won't. Personally, I am very suspect about the hiring.

And Corso has forgotten more football then you will ever know. In case you can't figure it out, he is on TV..its called entertainment.

Huh? He recruited some very good skill players to ND. He neglected the defensive side of the ball, outside of Te'o, which was ultimately his downfall. That and his ability to develop a team. It turns out he wasn't a good HC, but as an OC and a recruiter of offensive players, he would do fine at Florida.

"Some" being the key word. And as I said, I don't think he was "that great" of an OC either. I think he was OK. And I think he neglected the run and depended on the pass way too much. I don't think you can get away with that in college.

I think Weis deserves credit for making his offense overachieve and that is a credit to his coaching. Look at Quinn and Clausen now and you realize he tricked people into thinking they were elite, when in reality they were average. That is a credit to his coaching.

BTW I hate defending Weis.

In 2009, the Chiefs were 25th in total offense. This year with Charlie, they are 9th in the NFL. Most if not all of the staff will be announced tomorrow. Right now there are plenty of high school All Americans in St.Pete for the Under Armour game getting plenty of exposure to the Gators in Tampa. Today was a good day.

I'm hearing Kirby Smart rumors again. I thought he would replace Richt, but I guess the boosters in Athens love Richt. Muschamp and Smart are good friends.
O.C. = Weis
D.C. = Smart
HBC = Boom

Weis didn't ignore the run, Darius Walker was a fine running back. In 2005 and 2006 the running game wasn't bad. 2007 was an absolute disaster, as many expected. 2008 they got much better offensively as a whole. In 2009 Allen took a big step forward as a running back, but was injured yet again. That coupled with being down every game because of a porous defense, led to all of the passing.

I also don't get the criticism of Clausen after one season with the worst NFL team. He was deadly accurate in college, and has done next to nothing to indicate he's going to be a bust other than play before most do on an incredible shitty team. I hope they draft Luck and trade him so he doesn't get the Tim Couch treatment.

Weis' move to Florida is a good one. I don't know many people dying to live in Kansas City. It's just not a great job. Would you rather be an OC in Kansas City for an above average franchise or an OC in Gainesville for one of the premier programs in the country. Not really that hard of a decision on his part.

I don't think you hire a coordinator, then ask him to run a different scheme than he's used to.(See Greg Robinson @ UM).

This is a major coup for Florida.

Weis was a shitty head coach, which he seems to know from what I have read, but no one can argue with his ability as far as being an offensive coordinator when that is all he is focusing on unencumbered by the responsibilities of being a head coach.

This will certainly help recruiting on the offensive side of the ball, and anyone trying to argue otherwise is kidding themselves or living in denial. He can point to the turn around job he did with the KC offense this season and tell recruits that he can make them a star on that side of the ball.

Unlike at ND, he is going to be able to focus on offense 24/7 at Florida like he did with N.E and K.C. That is clearly what he is best at, and is a powerful pitch to any incoming offensive recruits that his sole job is to make them look good.

He will have talent to work with at Florida he couldn't dream of at ND, and he won't be bogged down with the minutia that comes with being the head coach instead of a coordinator.

I am not a Florida fan at all, but I think this is going to end up working out really well as the guy knows offense and has shown to be dangerous when all he has to worry about is coordinator duties and play-calling.

Considering Weis recruited plenty of guys, successfully, who had Florida offers, it's not like he was working with junior high players.

Oh, he had his fair share of guys to work with for sure.

However, I think we can all agree that there is a difference in the academic standards as far as who Notre Dame will accept compared to Florida. I am sure there are recruits that he will be able to get admitted now at Florida that ND would have never let in. That is just the reality of the situation.

My whole thing with Weis (and any coach from the NFL for that matter)...and this is completely my opinion...is that the scheduling is so much different for college coaches than NFL. In the NFL, Weis has those offensive players all day every day. Those guys are getting paid to come in, watch tape, workout, and practice throughout the week. In college, there's so many restrictions with classes and the limit on the number of practice hours. Weis always struck me as the type of guy who would practically live at the facility during the season. And I really believe that's why he is such a good coordinator and he's so great with the X's and O's. But he can't have his QB in the film room with him all the time like he probably does in the NFL. He can't have the kids practice for hours on end like he can in the NFL. It's just a different monster.

Now that's not to say that he can't get the most out of the kids in the time he is allowed with them. He clearly is a great coordinator, and I think he would do a fine job at Florida. I just feel like he is a better NFL coach than college coach.

I always wondered about how he was able to recruit considering you just don't do that in the NFL. A lot of guys who weren't in college before going there from the NFL seemed to struggle w/ the adjustment

Weis was brash, confident (sometimes to a fault), and told you exactly how it was (unless it was in a post-game presser...but then again no Parcells guys do that). While most people found this to be very annoying and gave them a reason to hate Weis, it really helped in his recruiting. Put yourself in the kids' shoes. In walks this guy talking about how great he is and how he's going to turn around ND and make them a contender. He flashes one or more of his four Superbowl rings and tells you that he can get you to the NFL so you can win one, too. Kids ate that up.

Isn't the reason Weis is leaving due to not handling full offensive duties at KC? If so, one has to wonder how much that change can be attributed to Weis.
