haha. Beat me to it. I just started the same thread.

Anyways, that was aan awful call. The kid wasnt showing up the other team or anything like that. The refs just ruined a good game

That call was not only horrible, but the timing could not be any worse. You don't call a penalty in that situation with a minute left in the game. That would be like calling a hand check with :02 left in a tie basketball game and sending a guy to the free throw line.

If you call a penalty on that, you MUST call a penalty everytime someone kneels after a TD or throws their arms in the sky, for all the ref knew the guy was saluting "his God", ref absolutely blew it.

this would have been the equivalent of getting called for unsportsmanlike conduct for flipping the ball too hard at the ref

Did he really draw attention to himself? That was an awful call. I understand the rule but I have seen players get away with much worse. The inconsistency with refs is awful. Somebody already mentioned it, Oregon can make an "O" with their hands and its fine, the Buckeyes do it and its a flag?

KSU TD, guy dropped the ball and saluted the crowd (think Denver mile high salute), lasted no more than a second. Refs call a 15 yard unsportmanlike (after a game where after many plays guys spiked the ball, went nuts after plays, etc.) so KSU had to do the 2 point try from the 18 (didn't make it).

On the same drive, a Syracuse D-lineman gets a sack and does a little dance to the crowd. Why is that not a penalty? These NCAA officials are an absolute joke. Use a little common sense!!

This rule is one of the few that actually favors the defensive player over the offense. We have all seen the guy doing the little dance after a sack or a tackle, or defensive backs doing a hip bump after knocking down a pass. How is what this player did any different?

I think the rule is misguided. I think players should be allowed to do as this player did, players should do a dance after sacking a QB etc., but just don't pull an Ocho Cinco on us and give the football CPR or whatever. Just a little common sense would go along way here.

Agreed, I like the NFL's rule....1) no taunting, and 2) no group choreographed crap. Other than that let the guys be excited unless it is completely out of hand.

Somebody really has to have a sit down with some of these prima donnas in the striped shirts...Spielman made a comment during the Texas Bowl last night that because of the uniforms they're wearing, some of these guys are taking advantage of their position and making calls for the sake of making a call--and it's gotten ridiculous.

Doesn't much matter to me whether he shows emotion or not, seems that it mattered to the official. If it was done the way I suggested in my post, there is no chance for a penalty, and KSU is going for Two from the 3 yard line rather than the 18.

If the NCAA wants to crack down on celebration, eliminate the in-game punishment and instead just have somebody watch the video tape of the game. Every celebration, no matter how small, is a $500 fine for the school of the team in question. Anything. Chest thump, raised finger, fist pump, drop to a knee, ball spike, etc. Add up the tally and send a bill to the school each week. Donate the money to a charity, etc. But don't affect the fucking game because a kid just scored the touchdown of his young career.

For those watching the UNC-UT game (Music City Bowl), there have been at least 5 celebrations more "self promoting" more than that play.

I thought it was a pretty poor call, especially at the juncture of the game.

Overall, I thought it was a really great game. Too bad the field wasn't in a little bit better shape but really exciting game, one of the best yet

Isn't a foul/penalty a foul/penalty whether its the first minute or the last minute of a game?
Just because they didn't call it in another game doesn't mean it wasn't a penalty today in the 'Cuse game.

Like someone said its pretty simple give the ball to the ref and celebrate with your teammates on the sidelines.

and therein lies the problem. if you're going to call it a penalty for one game, call it a penalty for all games. if you're only going to pick and choose when you enforce it, then why enforce it all?

It is also pretty simple for the refs to show a shred of common sense. The whole game players chest-bumped, sack danced and even spiked the ball after plays, and they call that in that particular situation?
