I had 4 of them on a flash drive and while trying something else I found an "update drivers" button for the network adapter. I set the drive to search for new drivers to my flash drive and it grabbed the correct one and fixed the issue.
i had to do the same damn thing to get my audio to work again once i switched to windows 7. bastards

See, I love Windows 7. But Vista was a colossal goat fuck if you had anything less than 2 gbs of Ram which many did when it came out.

Sort of. But not really. In the end I fixed it but it should not have been that difficult. Installing the drivers per their instructions should have worked.

I don't LOVE Win7, but I don't have any issues with it. Didn't have much problem with Vista, either, once I got rid of incompatible programs and cleaned-up some other garbage (so, yeah, for the average user it would suck).
Only real issue for me is there is a small learning curve finding out where basic stuff is with the new OS.

I had Vista for a short 9 months while I worked at Accenture and it was pure garbage. Probably because it was running on an underpowered laptop. Either way it was part of the reason I started looking for a new job. A minor part, but still a part.

What basic stuff? Nothing really changed (except under the hood) other than making it shiny.

Back to the Ubuntu discussion:
how did you/do you like it Justin?
i want to run ubuntu on my machine because i've heard it's pretty smooth and faster than windows, but the wife won't let me because she's afraid she won't know how to do anything. I actually have the disc at the house but never installed due to her insistence that i not.

Finding the trackpad settings and how to tweak, the task bar was a bit different (maybe depends on how you had it set on Vista)....other small things, like navigating to uninstall programs. Other annoying stuff I had to figure out how to tweak to my liking like edge scrolling. Minor annoyances that had a bit of a learning curve. Plus I had some things to figure out to disable security alerts for a few programs I use. I got a new laptop with Win7 so that could be part of it.

Ubuntu is sweet. Part of the reason I love OS X is because it is Unix based. It makes my job a lot easier that I can essentially treat my mac the same way that I can treat my server (which runs a server version of Ubuntu). Ubuntu and OS X are very similar in the way that they operate.

Perhaps at the Kernal level they're similar but for most users they'll find the experiences vastly different.
I love Ubuntu and feel that it's the most polished flavor of Linux out there. But there will be people who don't like it because despite how well designed it is there are things that confuse people switching from Windows or OS X.

Yeah. I guess I meant they are similar in that I love the command line and they both have a terminal app.

But they share a lot of the same visuals, at least you can configure Ubuntu to easily look like OS X.

How does the Office suite play with Ubuntu?
I wouldn't mind trying to ditch Windows, but then there's also all these newfangled functional keys on my laptop that I'm not sure will work properly with Ubuntu (of course, I don't really use them).
