He made this statement during Texas Bowl on ESPN. He doesn't think Tressel will make this public until game time. He also said that 80-90% of the Buckeye Nation would agree to this. Interesting.

I agree. Sit their asses.
Troy sat his bowl game.

I've met no one, other than posters on here, that says they should play.

I wouldn't play them and I think that in a perfect world, Tress wouldn't play them either. But IMO we will see Tress make them sit out a quarter or two and then they will all play after that.

Otherwise I don't think you would have seen Gene Smith jumping on top of the grenade and begging for their eligibility for next week's game. The BCS, Big 10, and Ohio State all have a vested interest in those guys playing.

Wasn't T Smith suspended for the bowl game?

I love Spiels, but he is a little nuts sometimes...

He also just said that the Illinois QB should have fell down short of the goal line when there wasn't a player within 20 yards of him to run out the clock.

Oh and it's CHRIS, not CRIS.

And now he's OK with Baylor calling timeout with 5 seconds left in order to run a play. "Never quit", but Illinois should quit because they are dominating?

Yeah he contradicted himself terribly.

If they sit the suspensions should be reduced to two games. 5 is fucking ridiculous.

So the dumbass gym teacher is the one not against them sitting for this game?

They should sit this game and 2-3 the next year.

As far as 80-90% agreeing.....not that high.

So Tressel sitting them for 1 quarter means the 5 games should be reduced next year? That makes sense.

The NCAA stated that they would have gotten 4 games, just like AJ Green did to start this year, but the 5th game was added because they didn't report the violation once they were aware of it.

Also, I don't know if it was discussed on any of the other 19 threads on this subject, but I saw a tweet from Kevin Gordon (I think) that said that one of the Sugar Bowl execs asked OSU to allow the players to play in the game "to keep the integrity of the game" or something along those lines. I'll try to dig up the article.

4 games is still too much of a penalty. Here and the AJ Green situation.

No, I think a game equals a game. For you to say they should sit for a quarter and then have the suspension reduced because of it is not smart.

Don't disagree with that, but I think the NCAA was trying to be consistent in its penalties (for once).

Yeah.

They did come out today and defend their decisions with the OSU and Auburn issues. Saying they deny playing favorites....

This was said in the article I just posted...
Before the NCAA handed down its penalties, Ohio State officials informed Sugar Bowl organizers that the school was lobbying for the players to be eligible for the Jan. 4 game.

Sugar Bowl executive director Paul Hoolahan told The Columbus Dispatch that he encouraged Ohio State officials to push for the players to be allowed to play against Arkansas.

"I made the point that anything that could be done to preserve the integrity of this year's game, we would greatly appreciate it," Hoolahan was quoted was saying in Wednesday's editions of the newspaper. "That appeal did not fall on deaf ears, and I'm extremely excited about it, that the Buckeyes are coming in at full strength and with no dilution."

If he does sit them I'd be highly pissed as a fan who went to the game. It wouldn't be right.

And therein lies the problem. Selective punishments to accommodate the moneyed interests involved.

Wrong Bowl games mean money. If OSU benches them then it could mean money for the Sugar Bowl. Which will make the Sugar Bowl less likely to pick OSU the next time. Well I guess not if they wait until game time cause the sponsers will already be in so maybe the do it at game time.

Its a NO WIN situation for Tress. Some will be pissed IF he does sit them. Some will be pissed IF he doesn't sit them. Word through the grapevine is that they WILL play. How much and when is the question.
Tressel is paid to coach the team, make the decisions. He is paid to WIN games. The 5 games is excessive IMO. Why ding them anymore? It wasn't OSU or Tress decision to let them play the bowl game, it was the NCAA.
I'll respect whatever he decides to do. Its his ship.

^^ Agree with that. But IMO I would sit them just to save anything else that would happen to come along later on down the road...It would also get the NCAA's respect when going for the appeal to decrease the suspension...hopefully.

The NCAA won't give a rats ass if they sit or not. Greene got 4 games. I don't know if Georgia appealed that or not. So its highly unlikely, no matter what..that OSU won't win the appeal. And if they do, at most it will probably only be one game.
