You all are stupid if you think Phil Jackson coached like he wanted to win.

Players wanting to win DOES NOT equal coach wanting to win. The players definitely wanted to win, but Phil:

A. didn't call a timeout during any of the runs
B. didn't pair his 7 footers together when the biggest issue on Miami is lack of interior presence


Again, Phil is the best coach in the game, and he certainly didn't coach like it yesterday.


And for the record, I DESPISE the Lakers, but I think people are making way too big of a deal of the Miami win.

So a guy with 11 NBA Championships and one of the most intelligent individuals involved in the NBA did not coach it up because he doesn't like playing on Christmas and sucking enough years in a row will keep them from being on TV on Dec 25th.......even though they are the NBA Champions and are one of the greatest and interesting franchises with one of the best players ever...AND they are increasing the number of teams that play on Christmas.

He may not have coached to win....which would be assinine but he is known for letting his teams play without calling timeouts.

There is no excuse for how the Lakers played yesterday. Shoes are far more improtant.

Bynum and Gasol weren't on the court together? That's odd I distinctly remember Bynum throwing an oop to Gasol from the 3 point line. It did work some, but right after that play Miami called a timeout, made an adjustment, and then were able to handle it. So your point is inaccurate and your post if filled with ignorance (not really but that's your favorite line).

Also point A is also a poor one, Jackson very rarely takes timeouts when an opposing team is on an extended run. He prefers his team show some mental toughness and finds a way to right the ship on its own. You should really watch more basketball if you didn't know that.

I'll rephrase point B. For an extended period of time.

And while Phil doesn't do that during the regular season (the timeout calling) he does do it in the playoffs when he actually cares about winning.

No ignorance ;)

No, when he cares about it in the regular season, the Lakers win. When he doesn't care, they get blown out in consecutive home games.

He is probally hoping with each bad performance on Christmas they will take his team off the Christmas day schedule.

Yes, but that's apparently only true during the regular season when he doesn't give a shit about winning. He actually coaches during the playoffs. :rolleyes:

Posted that right after read skyhook's post, then I learned he only coaches during the playoffs.....Why doesnt he take a month or two off then? It could help his health issues some.

Probably because he actually does care. :)


And I do think it has been talked about that he would not go on long road trips as its the constant travel that he really doesn't like. That could have just been an idea thrown around when the Lakers were trying to entice him to delay retirement, not sure.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that the Lakers and Phil Jackson wanted to lose on Christmas Day, nor would I say that they don't care that they lost at all. That being said, I wouldn't call this loss a big deal at all. I remember last year the Lakers had a complete meltdown on Christmas Day against the Cavs, to the point that the fans were throwing things on the court in disgust. That game didn't seem to have too much of an impact on the Lakers last year.

Completely agree with this. Miami still feels they have something to prove and they had this game circled once the schedules were released. The Lakers probably treated it as just another game.

Except half of the team had on those hideous shoes (yes I'm aware that is more of a marketing thing by Nike). Didn't Fisher have some quote in the days leading up to the game about how playing on Christmas means you are important to the league and it is special? Kobe was also quoted prior to the Milwaukee debacle on Tuesday that if they lose that game, it ruins what would be special about the Christmas game, etc?
