And the same for guys like Steratore and Leavy.

You wouldn't want them doing a big Steelers game any time soon.

But other than that, they've been among the better officials recently.

I recognize a lot of the names...probably from osmosis from just hearing announcers say, "And here's (name) to make the call", but I doubt I could identify many of them. Like, if you put up pics of, say Walt Coleman and Walt Anderson and told me to tell you which was which, I'd have a 50/50 chance of getting it right by luck, but that's it.

Blakeman is the only rookie ref, right? I was watching a game of his this weekend. I only remember him because they mentioned something about being the only rookie. He wasn't too bad.

I don't like the quick flags......take a moment if you need to think about what just happened. Make the right call...I don't care if it is late or the moron announcer says it was late....get it right.

Quick doesn't mean correct...but it does mean you were anticipating it.

This is part of the problem. Perception of believing the announcers. Dan Fouts and Joe Theisman are idiots. Jon Gruden and Ron Jaworski have credibility.

What is especially bad is when I notice things like flags before the announcers, but they make it sound like a late flag (not necessarily saying it is, but using the proper element of surprise in their voice to make you think this is some new development in the play) because they didn't notice it.

"Boy he broke free and got down the sideline....50....45....and forced out of bounds at the 43. What a great effort to get them a needed first down. He really accelerated through the tackle and...wait, wait, it looks like a flag might have been thrown in the backfield. Let's go down to the field and find out."

Or something like that where they give the illusion the flag might have been thrown late, when it really wasn't.

not to harp on it but in the game Sunday Phil Simms would look at the replay and still keep his same opinion even though the video evidence suggested something else

that happens a lot, and I'm just using that as an example

as a viewer at home, use your own eyes and don't let the analyst form the opinion for the entire country

Carey and Hochuli are the only 2 guys I recognized from those pictures, and I have no idea if either of them are any good.

This. He has worked the last 2 Browns games I was at, sending me and everyone sitting around me into a drunken rage.

Steratore works NCAA basketball games in the Eastern US as well during the week, and moreso come conference play once there are only so many NFL games left. Had him in the Convo at least once last year, pretty good ref... lets the teams play as opposed to the usual asses we get for MAC play that think they get paid by commission for foul calls.

Im pretty sure the first "giving him the business" call was by Ron Cherry. No actions, just the words.

No. Cherry was 2007. Ben Dreith was 1986.
