His defense is probably average to slightly above average, steals on par with everyone else, and passing is simple, but nothing spectacular.

I don't understand this. Buckeye fans bash pryor and all he does is win. Deibs gets bashed nonstop and all he does is win. He's having a great year. His defense has been soooo much better this year and he's making a lot more 3's then it seems he's missing. He's also a great teamate. Never demanding the ball and does whatever they ask of him.
We should be enjoying this team and these seniors. Not bashing them.

I'm not really trying to bash Diebler. I mean the kid is a good shooter when he's on. I just think people tend to make him out to be better than he really is.

The kid would be all fucking world if he was "on" every single game and dynasty would still find fault.

And MY POINT was pointing how you said he didn't show up in BIG games...I pointed out OSU big games and what he averaged in those. In the 14 games I looked at, he only scored under double digits in two of those.

Interesting note...Matta had Diebler guarding Florida best player, Parsons and Diebler played him very well. And right now, there isn't a player on OSU looks to get the ball down to Sullinger more then Diebler is and has.
Something else that people don't see is that Diebler rarely if ever forces a shot. He is very selective. He isn't out looking to burp shot after shot. Thus far this season, he has only shot more then 10 shots in three games.
So, as far as "consistency" is concerned...you aren't going to see him score at a pace every game because he is selective with the number of shots he gets. That doesn't mean he is inconsistant. It means he is a team player and lets the game come to him and doesn't force the action.

The Diebler haters forget what last year's team was like and why this year's is a MUCH better TEAM. Evan Turner was a gift to Ohio State, the Big Ten and NCAA basketball last year. But having the ball in his hands so often and for such extended periods of time caused others to be "inconsistent". If you're honest, you will have to admit that quite often there was too much standing around and "Turner watching" happening by the other 4 players on the floor. Most of the credit could be given to the opponent's taking away Turner as much as they could, which didn't stop Turner from trying to be "the man". After so much "Turner watdhing" the other players were unable to step up. If Turner had an off game, had turnovers at critical times, was well defended by an opponent, Ohio State had a problem.The other players were waiting and watching for Turner to be the hero. Ohio State was who they were last year, the team Matta wanted them to be.

This year no one is standing and watching. This Ohio State team is not depending on any one player, they have five players that on any given night can score 20 something. This team is much more of nightmare for opposing coaches to defend than the Turner Buckeyes. They have one of, if not the best inside threats in the country. One of the best 3-point shooters in the country and 2 players who have very nice all around games. The 5th is Thomas who is more than capable of scoring 20, as the season progresses and he becomes more comfortable and learns to play within the offense.

BTW, has Matta had a better defensive/rebounding team since he's been at Ohio State?

The answer to your question is: no. This is the best rebounding and defensive team he's had -- even better than the Oden-Conley group.

Please don't lump Dynasty and a few others as typical OSU fans. The vast majority of OSU fans love Pryor and appreciate what he's done -- greatly. The vast majority of OSU fans love Jon Diebler and understand what a terrific talent he is, and how much he brings to the team in every game.

No, Oden grabbed a lot of boards, blocked a lot of shots, the team had some steals that season but overall defense wasn't as focused as it seems to be now. Matta has been a players coach by all accounts and got into their grills a little at half time of IUPI, specifically regarding the defensive effort. As a team I think they're playing pretty decent D and actually think they'll be better as the competition becomes more difficult.

BTW, currently there are 4 players on the team who have taken more shots than Diebler, yet Diebler is 2nd on the team in scoring. Diebler has the best assist to turnover ratio on the team.

I think because of the ungodly numbers he put up in high school, that some people actually believe he should just naturally score 30-40 a game. I like the little things he does, and I'm glad some other people notice it too

Can't wait to be back in Ohio next week and see the bucks play Oakland. Should be a dandy.

Thats exactly what the issue is with some. Unrealistic expectations. Seeing him play in HS, I never thought for a second he would score in college like he did in HS. He was in fact a great HS player. But he had to move from playing with the ball 99% of the time in HS to playing off the ball. That is quite arguably the toughest adjustment a player could make. I think he has done exactly what Matta wanted from him when he recruited him.

I'm not the one who originally brought Diebler into the discussion. Yes, I haven't been a huge fan of his, but I have said that I think he is playing at a very high level right now.

First off, he's a freshman, so I would consider that to be consistent play. He is a guy you can count on to get 11-15 every single night, but he will have those games where he has more opportunities and plays even better.

He put him on Parsons because he has a similar game. Parsons is soft and isn't going to attack the rim, therefore he's a good matchup for Diebler.
