Another game that does nothing for tOSU. Yes, Diebler hit some 3's, but there was very little defense to stop him. I'm glad that the Oakland Grizzlies have shown the ability to compete with the better teams on their schedule. The Buckeyes better not come out flat against Oakland, they won't be able to coast like they have the past few games.

Probably right...but again, its not like OSU is much different then anyone else playing these teams. It is what it is...

To say Diebler is consistent is just plain wrong. Go ahead and graph his points in each game over his career, I'm sure it's full of ups and downs.

And shooting a good percentage is the last thing that proves consistency. You have to know that.

Diebler has always played better against the sub-par competition than the good teams. The only evidence anyone ever needs to prove that Diebler is inconsistent is to point to Tennessee. In the biggest game of his college career, he didn't show up.

He obviously faces better defense against big teams, so he doesn't get the open looks. But guess what, that's just an excuse.

With that said, he has played pretty well this year. He does have more value this year with Sullinger than he did last year, because it's hard to double on the post off of Diebler. He's a shooter so he will have his great games and others where he's not hitting (hopefully this year he shoots even if he misses his first two shots). But regardless of that, I just hope that Matta doesn't make the same mistake as he did last year and become set on Diebler playing his 37 minutes regardless of how well he is playing that specific game.

Yes and no. Just because others do it, doesn't make it okay. And I broke down the schedules of the top 10 teams and OSU's is by far the least impressive. There really is no excuse for it, other than to have as many home games as possible to generate revenue. It's really hard to be interested in these games though.

For a PERIMETER player, he is in FACT as consistant as anyone who is or has been a designated 3pt shooter.

And who in the hell doesn't play better against lessor competition btw? Do you think Sullinger is going to throw up 40 against MSU? Any good player is going to pad their stats vs lessor team...that goes for any sport.

I never said it was ok. I would prefer a better schedule, no question. But again, if OSU were the only team doing it, then its worth crying about. And it is all about money. Just as football is. If you were sitting in the AD chair, you would be forced to do the same.
And no, not by far. Stop with your exaggerations. For instance, Duke playes two good teams, and they play only ONE game on another teams home court in their entire OCC schedule.
I realize OSU schedule isn't that great...and although some of those other teams have one two better games...they still play a TON of cake teams and thats NOT debatable.

Matta would get roasted if he sat Diebler for any length of time, he'll be the most prolific 3 ball guy in the history of the Big10 by the time he's done. Shooters have up and down streaks, name some that don't. Fact is you can't take the risk that he gets hot with the daggers and have him on the bench. Ludicrous.

No he's not. I don't care if he goes 0-7 one game, as I don't define that as inconsistency. I do however think when he takes 10 shots one game followed up by only 2 shots the next, that is the model of inconsistency.

And I disagree about lesser competition. I do think Sullinger could go for 40 against a Big 10 team. I think Diebler is capable of making nine 3's against a Big 10 team. There are guys every year who elevate their play come conference play. Can't do it now, but it's easy to compare OOC statistics vs. in conference and there are guys that elevate and others that do not.

Dieblers FG attempts since Morehead: 10, 2, 12, 6, 5 & 14. He is a shooter and he is going to be consistent in my opinion, by shooting the ball at least 7 times every single game. That will make OSU a better team.

I thought Buford showed signs of breaking out of his slump. IMO, he needs to work on his shot selection and settle into a rhythm...and he will (no pun intended) :p

If you think you have it bad as an OSU fan, take a look at Cincinnati's strength of schedule.

They are one of 12 undefeated teams left and aren't ranked. Their SOS is 333. Out of 345.

^^why don't OSU & Xavier schedule each other? I'd love to see the Buckeyes play Dayton & Cinci as well.

Who knows. It probably has gone to talks before and then just ended up as everyone refusing to be an away team in the state of Ohio.

Dynasty will never admit he's wrong, even after Diebler becomes the all-time leader in 3 point shots in Big Ten history. Even when you can show "big" game after "big" game where Diebler did his part to help the team win -- which, of course, is the bottom line. And even though Matta SAYS he's one of his best players, and proves it by putting him on the floor for nearly 40 minutes a game.

Logic, reason and facts mean nothing when people have a bias and won't let it go.

As for the schedule, I'd love to see Ohio State begin playing Xavier, Cincy, Dayton, and rotate the MAC schools. Do alternating home-away games with Xavier, Cincinnati and Dayton, and perhaps a 2 or 3 for 1 with the MAC schools.

No one is going to agree to home and homes. I don't think it would be a bad idea to rotate a neutral site every year, excluding Dayton because they are so worthless to humanity they don't deserve it.

Cincinnati at US Bank Arena, Columbus at Nationwide, Cleveland at the Q. Cleveland isn't really necessary but you could bill it as sort of a 'big 4' in the state of Ohio.

Everyone is able to make games, and it gets OSU on board by never forcing them to be an away team in Ohio.

I've never denied Diebler's value to this team or his shooting ability. He's a great shooter. It's that simple. And I really don't think it's bashing when I say I wish he would get at least 7 shots every single game, because it will make the team better.

But the fact remains that he hasn't shown up in some of OSU's biggest games and I hope that this year he turns that curve.

Last year, vs ranked teams and in other "big" games such as the Big Ten tourney and NCAA....Diebler averaged over 12pts per game.

That is your evidence? Seriously?

He averaged 13 for the year, so he averaged less in "big games".

And an average does not prove anything. Why can't you understand that? I'm talking about consistency. He could scored 26 1/2 his games and 0 1/2 his games and average 13. That does not equate to consistency.

As for "big games last year":
UNC - 4-13 17 points
Cal - 3-7 14 points
Butler - 2-7 7 points

As for Big 10 season and the WVU game (21 games):
He scored 9 or less in 8 games
He scored 16 or more in 7 games

It's really not hard to understand that one's average does not prove anything when talking about consistency.

I mentioned the 4 big OOC games and the entire Big 10 schedule. What games did I leave out?

Your argument was that he "averaged" less against good teams than he did on the season. Not sure what you are trying to prove?

The median and mode would be much more telling than the mean.

Four times he scored: 17
Five times he scored: 12

I love Diebler... Hes gonna score 20+ vs MSU this year, mark it down

Unfortunately this turnedinto a bash Diebler thread, when in actuality I think he's been playing great ball this year. Sullinger helps his game even more so than Turner, plus he has a PG who is a setup PG. This is the kind of offense that a shooter dreams of.

You are seriously saying he didn't do well because he averaged about what he averaged all year long in the team's bigger games? This during a year when the team had ONE guy it let do most of the team's scoring?

Your argument also ignores the other aspects of Diebler's game, his defense, steals, and passing, all of which help maintain a balance on the floor when it's needed most.

Matta doesn't love this guy only because he's a great outside shooter. He loves the intangibles he brings every game that help this team win.
