I needed one yesterday. Should have been a snow day but with my boss that will never happen. It took me forever to get to work, I was having lady problems and it was just an all around bad day after I got here.

I do have to referee tonight but I thought spending all day doing nothing would be nice!

Proud of ya. I have the benefits and lots of them as I get about 60 sick days a year, I use very very few sick days if any at all most years. This year, total 4. I don't think I abuse the system at all!

60 days is a shitload of sick days, I'm assuming they're sans pay?

My sick days and vacation days come from the same "bucket" so I rarely use sick days. I can be miserable at work, but I want to enjoy my time off.

I do always get annoyed when they question me for calling in. Are you kidding me? I call in sick about once every five years, do I really have to pretend cough? Lol

60 sick days a year is ridiculous for a company to give. It's no wonder our economy is in the predicament it's in. That's just wrong.

I have never been questioned for calling in. Sick days are separate from my vacation and personal days (my company benefits are fantastic as i get 3 weeks vacation, 3 personal days, and like I said 60 sick days). Sick days are paid! However if out 4 consecutive days you must have dr's clearance to return on the 5th. Extended time will need dr's clearance along with FMLA.

There has got to be, at the very least, talk around the water cooler about Sally-Skips-a-Lot missing yet another day. I mean, if someone took even a third of those I'd be questioning their commitment.

We don't have sick days. Technically, I believe we have unlimited vacation days, though we don't take them. We have to (1) bill a certain number of hours each year, and (2) be available in case anything comes up at any time. As long as we comply with those two, we're really flexible on when we work (as long as by "flexible" you mean "I occasionally leave early on a Friday afternoon, but I often work weekends/evenings and occasionally have holiday/vacation plans canceled with no notice.")

Of course there is. We have tons of people that take full on advantage of it. I feel guilty when I do this (which I said is very rare) as I work in a small department but sometimes I feel if you haven't used any of them there is no problem with it IMO.

On top of that my boss is as cool as it gets. I bust my ass for him and my department so I expect to never get hell, now some of my partners need their asses torn up some days! I have people on my department that are out at least one day damn near every week. Me I may miss 4 days a year except for vacation!

No problem using them in small doses. As long as it's not abused, damn I hate that.

Hit 'em up on Fridays and Mondays as often as possible...lol

Where the catch is in my sick days do not all rollover. You can only bank up to X number of days at one time (I don't know what X is, maybe like 90 total at any given time). I am glad for this though, being able to accumulate that much sick time. When my father fell ill back in 99 he had over a year of sick time saved up on the books and didn't have to worry about anything for that year before having to retire when it expired! I heeded that lesson!

At my current pace I'll have about 230 days built up when I am eligible to retire in 27 years. We can take 3 consecutive without a doctors excuse, so I could basically work an extra year and really only have to show up at work like 50 days. We can sell our vacation time back when we retire, but sick leave is use or lose for the most part(I think they'll give you like 20% of it's worth).

Man, I only get five sick days a year...

Which have all been used. For legit purposes, if a hangover counts as being sick.

We get "unlimited" sick days, but they still expect you to get the hours in and work done. So being here a year and 2 months I have not taken 1. I'd much rather have a set amount of days that roll over and can be taken like vacation days.
