This. I've devoted my life to achieving an extreme deal of competence at drunk driving. There actually has been made a legal exception to the rule for me, where it's illegal for me to drive sober, so I have to be drunk to get behind the wheel.

I am also a statistic i wrecked while being legally drunk. I had a .068 bal and because i have a cdl, its a .04 bal, i was charge with a dui. I slid on black ice and wrecked I have regretted the day forever and didnt think two beers would bother me but it did and ended up costing me about 5k to get it lowered so it wouldnt affect my cdl. I have driven after one beer several times since then and have even got hammered and driven once due to a friend needing rushed to the hospital. so have been stupid a few times. I made a promise with my niece about 8 months ago and havent drank and drove again.

Back in the late 60's and early 70's, believe it or not , it was not against the law to drive while drunk. Needless to say I and my friends drove many times while drunk on our asses. We sometimes bring it up and wonder how we ever got to be this age.

actually, it was illegal, but very rarely enforced...however, I remember my uncle telling me that down in Florida as recently as the early 80's that open containers were allowed in the car, as long as the driver didn't have one--imagine that!!!

Pretty much every weekend. Now how many times have I driven DRUNK...? Too many. I can think of a few times where I have been blitzed and have no clue how I didnt injure myself or someone else. To the point of not knowing how I woke up in my bed.

I have gotten much better as I have aged. If I am gonna get hammered, I find an alternate route to the bar so I am not tempted. For me, and I think most people, it isnt so much about finding another way home, its about not wanting to leave your car. Ive remedied this by just not driving to begin with.

I did once, blew a .078 and got an OVUAC. Still a bit bitter about it; I still maintain I wasn't a threat to anyone's safety after three beers.

I don't think I've ever driven hammered. I don't go to bars too often, and the parties near campus are within a walkable distance.

I am the king of the "one eye drive".

The concept is simple.....When sufficiently inebriated, you tend to get quadruple and quintuple vision. the secret is to get to triple vision.

This is accomplished by either putting a hand over one eye, or for the more experienced, simply shut one eye in an exaggerated blinking fashion. This usually gets you to triple vision and you aim for the one you perceive to be the middle.

I am pretty sure there are states where this is still legal. I was visiting a friend at a college in Alabama a few years ago and when we went to the bar everyone brought a beer. They said it was legal but they could have been messing around.

this, and hanging your head out the window thinking that it may sober you up (it doesn't)

I hadnt either. Then I graduated and bars are all people go to and they arent near a campus.

I received a 'class B' DUI at 17 after wrecking my car with a .028. Karma as the weekend prior I drove home absolutely shitfaced in the middle of the road as I could not keep my car in the lane.

High risk insurance, court fees, lawyer fees, fines, towing costs, a new vehicle = $17 k

I used to all the time in college and esp. after school - for the last 10 yrs or so. About 6 months ago, at the beginning of the summer, I got pulled over at about 3 am driving home from the bars. I aced the sobriety test, then they had me blow - the cop came back and said he thought I was drunk but he was going to let me go since I was only a mile from home. I saw that as my wake-up call. I have a little girl that's 4 yrs old, a great job, and a nice house that I all saw flash before my eyes when that cop's lights started blinking in my rear view mirror. I'll never drink and drive again...a $20 cab ride is a little more affordable for me.
