Big 12 affiliated bowls, Alamo and Insight, both passed on #2 B12 Nebraska (whose fans would no doubt pack the house) in favor of #3 OkState and #4 Missouri.

Missouri will get to play Iowa in the Insight Bowl, while Oklahoma State will play Arizona.

Nebraska will get to play Washington (6-6), the same team they beat 56-21 earlier this year, in the Holiday Bowl. If it weren't for the seniors on the team I would love for Nebraska to decline the game so they won't have to give any money from it to the Big 12.

A Nebraska/Iowa matchup in the Insight Bowl would have been awesome!

Didn't hear about that/didn't think about this angle. They were definitely done dirty by the Big 12, but at the same time you really can't blame the Big 12. Obviously there is some sour grapes there. Nebraska/Texas almost killed the conference

What sort of tie breaker do they use in the Big 12?

Well you see, they haven't written the tie breaker yet for the Big 12. They will do that when the 8 team playoff goes in to effect. It will be a mix between BCS standings and on field matchups and whatever else cross country runners can think up. Stay tuned.

Don't think this is a big deal. The Holiday Bowl used to be one of the biggest non January 1 (and forward) bowls.

I think the Holiday Bowl is 5th in pecking order to take someone from the Big 12. Yet they get the #2 from the conference.

Teams are passed up on occasion, but it's usually teams that bring no fans to the game. Kansas State comes to mind. Same with Missouri. Nebraska though? Apparently a lot of people thought Iowa/Nebraska was a done deal but the Big 12 didn't want one of their bowl affiliations to turn into a Big 10 infomercial for 3.5 hours.

Can't blame those bowls for passing on a team that's headed on its way out of the league and wanting to keep its tie-ins strong

I think this is correct, but not too long ago the Holiday got Big 12 #3 against Pac-10 #2. I'm guessing San Antonio's footprint in the Big 12 and $$$$ led the powers that be into giving the Alamo a higher pick than the Holiday, but the Insight having a higher pick doesn't make sense. I'd much rather play in San Diego than Sun Devil Stadium.

NO, Oklahoma and Texas have killed the conference because they don't like to share revenue (mainly the latter). The idea of a Big 12 Network was shot down by Texas, who happens to have it's own network. It is part of the reason why Colorado and Nebraska decided to leave when they did, while the other schools in that conference continue to lack a spine.

BTW, this new rule about 6-6 BCS teams being allowed into a bowl game before teams with better records from Non-AQ is because of the Big 12. It is also one of the reasons why the Temple Owls (8-4) are left out of a bowl game when they beat the Big East Champion in a head to head match-up this year.

What a joke of a matchup. This is exactly my gripe with the bowl system letting too many teams get invites. Pitiful.

Ohio State's new rival for Big 10 supremacy should walk the dog on the Huskies.

Agreed.

Here is another one.
Maryland finished 3rd in ACC this year,(8-4) and was an interception at the goaline away against FSU to going to the ACC Title game. Normally, they would go to the Champs Sports Bowl or the Music City Bowl. Yet, because Maryland is not a high powered program, they got jumped by North Carolina (6-6) and NC State (who they beat last week) and Clemson (6-6). So, Maryland instead will play ECU in the Military Bowl here in DC.
No one is happy and it makes the last four games worthless as if they would have finished 6-6 they still would have made it to that game. How do you motivate players?

It seems like someone in the Big 12 gets the shaft every year with the Holiday Bowl. It used to be Texas. They'd be the #2 team in the Big 12 (#1 being OU because of the Red River Rivalry) Then #3 Big 12 team would then get the Cotton Bowl (which is much more prestigious). It never did make sense to me.

But the bowl system is so great . . . it would be terrible to interrupt that with a playoff system.

Nebraska will be the ones laughing next year and beyond when they their paychecks from the Big10.

Pick your poison pal. Would you rather a few mediocre teams get the shaft or auburn and Oregon playing in separate bcs bowls, and a huge argument over a split national title?

I believe he said with a playoff system. A playoff system doesn't yield any split champions (see: every other level of football). And it yeilds a true national champion, as teams have to prove it on the field, not just convince people they're so great based on the weak conference they just beat up on.

Critical reading skills would benefit you greatly here.

What he said. You can have a playoff with 8 teams and still have 20+ crappy bowl games for potential champions of mediocrity.
