The Midshipmen vs. the Aztecs. This could be an offense showcase. It definitely will be the best Offensive team Navy has faced this year production wise.

ANNAPOLIS, Md.--The Naval Academy Athletic Association has received 7,000 requests for donated tickets for the Dec. 23 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl.

"There is more enthusiasm and interest by our military in California to attend this game than any previous bowl game over the past eight years," said Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk. "The requests we have to date far outnumber the tickets we can purchase through donations. We still need a significant number of donated tickets from our alumni and friends to help us help our midshipmen, military and their families become a part of another successful Navy bowl experience."

Among those requesting tickets are more than 1,000 sailors and marines that will be returning from deployment the week of the game, including the Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 4th Marines (includes five Companies of Marines and Sailors, Reconnaissance Platoon, Tank Platoon, Artillery Battery, Light Armored Reconnaissance Platoon, Combat Engineer Platoon, and an Amphibious Assault Vehicle Platoon. The Commanding Officer is Lt. Col. Joseph Clearfield, USMC, who was the sprint football coach from 2005-07), Officers and Crew of the USS Dubuque (re-captured the MV Magellan Star from Somalia Pirates on Sept 9. The Commanding Officer is Capt. Christopher Bolt, USN and Class of 1987), and HMLA-267, which is an attack helicopter squadron.

Other requests for donated tickets have come from Naval Base San Diego; NAS North Island San Diego; Naval Amphibious Base San Diego; Pt. Loma Base San Diego; China Lake, Calif.; Fallon, Nev.; Monterey, Calif.; Seal Beach, Calif.; Ventura, Calif.; El Centro, Calif., Le Moore, Calif. and the Brigade of Midshipmen.

Looks like the attendance expectations are going to be high for this bowl....50,000 is a good possibility.

The eighth annual Brigade of Midshipmen Bowl Game Tailgate will take place Thursday, Dec. 23 from 2:00-5:00 in the parking lot of Qualcomm Stadium. This will once again be the biggest tailgate of the year for Navy fans.

The tailgate is open to all parents, alumni, family and fans. Tailgate tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children (3-12). Just look for the big Navy tent in the parking lot at Qualcomm Stadium.

The tailgate will have a menu that features a taste of San Diego including Beaches BBQ, Asian Fusion, Old Town Mexican and Little Italy along with sodas, water coffee, hot chocolate and hot cider as well as a cash bar for beer and wine.

We got it worked out last night the GF is flying into Vegas on the 20th and then her sister is driving her down to Coronado. The boy told me "there really is a Santa Claus!" hee hee. HOOYAH! GO NAVY!

Early line on this game is SDSU -3. I personally think that's too thin.

This will be the best team Navy has faced all year. They are aggressive offensively and have the benefit of playing a triple option team earlier in the year in Air Force. In addition, the Aztecs have Rocky Long as their Defensive Coordinator who was the head coach at New Mexico when Navy played them in the Emerald Bowl.

The three week lay off for the Midshipmen showed against Army in what amounted to their sloppiest game of the year. With another two weeks until the Bowl game they have some time to clean things up but one of those weeks is exam week at the Academy.

10 Things You Need To Know About Navy Vs. San Diego State

1. Although this could be considered a "home" game for the Aztecs It is very likely Navy will have more fans attend than San Diego State. The last time Navy played in the Poinsettia Bowl they sold more than 30,000 tickets.

2. The last time SDSU was invited to a Bowl game was 1996 While Navy will be appearing in their 9th stratight.

3. They have statistically evenly matched offenses but with different approaches. Navy avg 300 yards rushing and 15o yards passing per game while SDSU avg 300 yards passing with 150 yards rushing.

I don't feel comfortable about this game. Exams this week are limiting their preparation time and they really looked terrible against Army. The line on the game has moved even further as more money plays on SDSU.

It will be interesting to see how the crowd splits up. The Navy gets such great support from folks all over the greater SD area but on the other hand its a local college they are playing. Its hard for people to cheer against academy teams, last year at OSU vs Navy in the 'Shoe I found myself pulling for Navy on 1st downs and stops on 3rd almost sub-consciously. I'm just glad so many people like yourself are dedicating tickets to servicemen. We just heard last night that a local Marine who is at Twentynine Palms and played HS football with my son got tickets so they are getting together before the game. Great Stuff!

They need a lot more donations. I'm in with a group at the Academy whereby we guess the winning score of the Army game and the Athletic foundation donates a pair of Bowl tickets to the winner. The guy that won donated them and was told they could use many, many more. The requests they have are not yet able to be filled.

I wonder also. I think there's going to be plenty of Aztec fans there because they haven't been in a Bowl for a while but if tickets are made available there's going to be an awful lot of Navy fans. This is from Rivals.com

My son's GF's sister and her husband got tickets thru SDSU but they are 100% Navy fans. So i'm betting alot of SoCal Navy fans did the same thing and are part of that 9,000 count.

Navy Senior Captain and starting safety Wyatt Middleton was seen in practice yesterday with a soft cast and a sling on his arm. Middleton and Coach Niumatalolo will only say the he will play on December 23rd.

This is not good news even if he plays.
