Just curious since it's on a Saturday. I have weekends off so I definitely won't work that day but I will most likely be working Christmas Eve and on Monday. I am definitely thankful to have the job I do, the schedule I do, etc (I worked every weekend and most holidays last year at a different job) but it's still kind of a bummer. No time off to see family that's out of town or anything.

And yes I know I should just be happy I have a job at all, blah blah blah.

I get Christmas Eve off, and then our company gave us New Year's Eve off as well. The good part is I have a bunch of vacation I have to use between now and the end of the year, so every week from here on out is either a 3- or 4-day week :)

only time I get off from work are the days of vacation I am taking.

So much for the myth of 'Banker's hours'.....

If a holiday falls on Saturday, we get Friday off. If a Holiday falls on Sunday, we get Monday off. So I'll be getting Christmas Eve and New Years Eve off this year.

I get Christmas itself off!!!! And, I believe Christmas Eve is a paid day off because of how Christmas is on a Saturday this year. Same with New Year's Eve because of New Year's Day also being on a Saturday. But that's it.

Not really. I'm always on call if something comes up, even if I'm technically on vacation (which, since I've only taken two vacation days in the past 2.5 years, isn't very often). E.g., I was in Ohio with family over Thanksgiving weekend (Weds-Sun). But something came up, so I ended up working some on each day. I'm not thrilled to take calls or write memos on Thanksgiving Day while the rest of my family is hanging out and having fun, but that's just part of the deal. It's not great, but we're in a client service industry, so whatever needs to be done needs to be done.

My boss thinks most people are working Christmas Eve because his wife is. She works at a dentist's office....who in the world would get their teeth cleaned on Christmas Eve? (And the owner of her practice is a bitch but she loves taking random days off...so why in the hell would she schedule patients on this day is beyond me). Either way, basically everyone in our field is taking the day off. We will be sitting here with nothing to do and I can say I told you so.

You should try and organize with your associates and eliminate these wrongful expectations! ;)

Agreed. Most days before a holiday we sit here at least 3 hours longer than we need to. He always says "Well we'll leave early since there's not much going on" but then I sit here til 3:30staring at my phone and computer. Don't get me wrong...I like getting paid to do nothing. But most holidays I am doing some sort of driving and I'd rather miss out on some $ and get on the road.

Heh. Bonuses come out in February, so no one wants to rock the boat until after they found out what bonuses will look like.

Honestly, my hours are generally very flexible but largely out of my control. I can (and often do) cut out early on a Friday afternoon, or stay home and help Mrs. FFT if she is sick, or whatever else. But then on the flip side, I'm literally always on call sacrifice weekends/evenings/holidays/whatever on a moments' notice. I guess it's all relative.

We're closing at 1p on the 24th. Would normally get Christmas off but instead got veteran's day off this year.
