On any forum I've ever been on, that is considered trolling. Honestly, if you don't have anything constructive to say other than immature assumptions GTFO of the thread and go find someone who really wants to hear what you do or don't think is proper protocol for calling off work.

I wouldn't consider that trolling, just being kind of a jerk and jumping to conclusions.

I've always considered "look at me! I'm smarmy and I am going to take the thread in another direction with my stupid comments!" trolling. But hey, thats just me.

Our boss prefers to be notified by email (non-emergency, future schedule changes, etc..) or text (emergency, upcoming schedule conflicts, etc..)

We talk to patients all day long, whether it be on the phone or in person, so he says the less talking he has to do about work outside of work, is all fine with him.

People are too busy trying to be productive to stop and have a conversation they could have just sent via digital message (text, email, etc.).

O-Trap......whatever happened with your job search? I know a while back you met with some difficult work issues losing your job, etc. Have things turned around for you?

Scarlet, still unemployed, though earning some with an online marketing enterprise, so I've stayed afloat.

Had an interview with InfoCision this morning, actually. Seemed to go pretty well, and from the sound of it, I'd enjoy working there.

Cross your fingers if you're superstitious. Pray if you're religious.

Speaking of hating your job. I moved away from Ohio to go to school on a coastal town in SC. I did not find a job there after graduation and now live in a random town in NC. Does it seem out of place to want to move back to NE Ohio even though I hate the cold but have more friends there than in the South?

Sounds like a boss who isnt very organized to me and doesn’t value his employees time and commitment to the company to even take a quick phone call. Nobody is ever ever ever that busy that cant have a quick personal conversation about work. It takes less than 2 minutes to call your boss and explain why you cant be at work.

Does your boss have an IV hooked up to him/her so they don’t have to worry about wasting time eating or a colostomy bag so they don’t have to waste 5 minutes in the bathroom either? Think of all the productivity lost while he wipes his ass.

I've worked for multiple employers who preferred a text. It's quicker, gets the point across, and doesn't take putting everything else down for two minutes.

And in terms of a boss caring for his employees, that's what guaranteed pay, benefits, and job perks are for. A boss requiring that I call him doesn't strike me as any more caring, and a boss that needs to hear my voice in order to receive communication from me may indeed think he's trying to be "personal" with me, but again, it's nothing more than a Michael Scott approach: devoid of any actual value.

Going to the restroom is a necessary evil, but guess what you can do while eating or using the restroom.

That's right. You can text, email and engage in digital business. No time lost. Shoot, if someone couldn't stand sending me a text and just NEEDED to hear the sound of my voice to validate himself, this would be the time to take it. Sitting on the john.

Important? Of course. Any good employer would want to know whether or not his employees are going to be in.

However, if the employer just needs that 3 AM phone call, what's he going to do about it at 3:00? He going to start making calls at 3:00 AM, looking for people to replace the employee? It's doubtful.

Might he do that at 6? Sure, depending on the start of business time. There is NOTHING an employer is going to do about an employee calling off at 3 AM. Thus, while important to know (and a good reason for a person to communicate to their employer), it is not an emergency, aka something that the employer absolutely would need to know at that time of night.

I reiterate, what is the boss going to do at 3 AM that it would be "too late" to do at 6 AM?

I have never received nor sent a text to an employee.

If you have to rush your children to the hospital I don't expect you to call me at 3:00 A.M. I do expect you to call the office as soon as you are able and leave a message .
