The Boys Basketball forum was the whole reason I joined up on "the other site" way back in the day. We really need everyone's help in getting this forum to be more robust. Please spread the word to your friends, family and enemies about this forum. It is a great place to just B.S. about the games and my favorite sport.

Remember that we do have a couple of rules, but it is still relaxed as can be...

NO SWEARING AND NO RUMORS ABOUT THE COACHES AND KIDS.

I am hoping for a lot more activity in this forum.. the more people we have, the better this place will be.

Also, don't be afraid to give me any input on how to make this better...like doing some pickem competitions for a prize or whatever.

I think one way to increase the popularity would be to have people wear OhioChatter t-shirts to random basketball games or have posters with OhioChatter on them at games. The main way to attract basketball fans without paying a bunch to advertise would be to go to basketball games and find cheap or free ways to advertise there.

Yeah, Justin has talked about making up some tshirts...I think kind of a neat thing would be to find some random games and have the cheerleaders throw the tshirts in the stands during timeouts or something like that....excellent idea.

That's a great idea. I never thought about the cheerleaders throwing them out. It would also be cool if you could put the teams name or logo on them, so the people who catch them will wear them more often. The main concern would be cost though. I'm not sure how many shirts he is thinking, but it could get expensive.

yeah, cost is a concern, but I am hoping to catch a break from a local place that does this kind of stuff...so we will see. Maybe some free advertising for them on the shirt would drive down the price.

So Justin either finally listened to my suggestion on shirts or he stole my idea and is passing it off as his own...smh.


I do think shirts are a great idea and would wear one to any game I went to.

I would pay for a shirt too, just throw the OC logo on the front and then OhioChatter.com across the upper back.

Yeah, you should be able to get a deal either by buying a bunch or having the company put their name on the back of the shirt.

I'm not trying to steal your idea, I remember it being mentioned but I was suggesting it because I think it is the best idea in order to improve the traffic here.

Sorry, but just my opinion here... You cannot advertise this site at high school sporting events. This site is not school appropriate, so that wouldn't work. I am a softball coach, actually looking at offering ad space to people. The thought crossed my mind of having an "OhioChatter" banner, but then it quickly dawned on me that if someone from my game saw it, went to the site, and clicked on the "boobs" or "booty" thread, or even the "girls kissing girls" thread, that wouldn't look too good. I personally like this site for what it is, but I would also like to see it more sports oriented. But in its current state, I would not "OK" advertising at a HS event.

That is interesting....may have to look into this a little bit more. The high school kids are not who I was thinking about targeting(mostly the parents/fans) but I guess just by doing a promotion like this...I am inadvertently targeting the younger kids.

I understand wanting to allow some level of freedom but on the forums discussing high school athletics I think we need to use some wise judgment. When others can't use that wise judgment, enforce it. Personally I would put up some kind of wall between new members and the non high school oriented forums.

Maybe an acknowledgment before they can view the other forums when they join that there could be some R-rated material. A two level process. Two sets of rules as you have suggested above. Strictly enforced on the high school oriented forums. If this site is going to have high school oriented forums there must be two sets of rules.

I am not a prude but I have discernment when It comes to where I make my posts and their content. Again JMO.

Again I agree. But I would point out that the "boobs" and "booty" threads equates to the "hot or not" thread currently on jjhuddle's bleacher seats. No doubt some threads on serious business take it a step farther. But on the "bleacher seats" the "hot or not" thread is mixed in with high school oriented threads in the same forum. Free for any teen seeking to see how their home team did or comment on the game, to view semi-naked women.

In fact in the bleacher seats the "hot or not" thread could be located just above or below the thread commenting on their high school team. Sexual content right next to a high school orientated thread? That don't happen here on the chatter. And jjhuddle is the name in high school sports forums? And the Chatter is hopeless? It don't add up. Lets not allow posters to interject sexually charged posts into threads seeking advice on how to grow this forum. Or any where in the high school forums for that matter.

If JJhuddle wants to allow sexually charged content next to high school oriented posts that is their choice. But here lets separate it and not tolerate it when it is interjected in a post in the high school forums. To this point this site has until this thread. Lets end it here.

Like I said in my previous post separation is the key. You join and have access the the strictly regulated G-rated forums (high school). If you want access to the other forums that may contain R-rated material you must access that at a 2nd level of acknowledgment. Have an acknowledgment to turn the swear filter on or off (if possible) before extending your membership to joining the 2nd level forums.

Wes, Justin would have to tell you how feasible this would be. But a structure along these lines would allow both worlds to coexist.

agree completely. Will never advertise or promote this site as it is because I wouldn't encourage ANYONE to see what goes on in serious business, let alone high school students and/or their parents. Call me ultra conservative, a prude or whatever, but Ive mentioned this a few times under "how to grow this site" or improve it or whatever. This site has attracted a certain kind of follower, a much more "adult" crowd than JJ. If that's what the site wants to be, fine, but don't expect a big following in the h.s. sports section, becuse the site overall is not "high school" appropriate. many high school kids come on to follow high school sports, and obviously their parents as well. MANY parents would not stay here after seeing what this site is like. I know that for a fact.

A high school student with internet access won't be shocked by anything that goes on here and if you think they would it's time for you to crawl out from underneath the rock you reside under.

agree. high school students with internet access have and will see things much worse than what this site has. that doesn't make it appropriate. There or here. i understand many/most on here would disagree with me, and encourage me to "get back under my rock". my point is that MANY of the people NOT here--at least many of the people i know and associate with (and again I know--we're all prudes, etc)---would not come here because of the content of this site. As stated above (and at many other areas on this site) if that's what you want the site to be, fine. It's apparent that is the case. i can live with that. Just don't be bewildered as to why the site "doesn't grow" or whay there is so little discussion on the high school forums as compared to the old JJ...

I agree with you, but I would rather my teens and tweens all six of them hang out here as opposed to other sites where some people lurk. Everyone I have met from this site have been very decent people.
