BigApple, props to you! I gotta say that I was probably a bit rambunctious myself. Sometimes this stuff happens, but then it blows over and we move on. This is part of the reason why I love posting on political forums. Sometimes I think people need to vent a little because sometimes, that is the only way people are skipped out of their groove. (ahh, the days of vinyl!)

Well, I can't speak for others, but I think in my practically sleepless night I found some scope of my inner zen.

Wonder what the reaction to his words today from his unemployment meetings will be.

First of all, it's a joke that the NFIB and Chamber weren't invited to this--yet he says that small business is well represented.

But did I honestly hear him correctly when he basically blamed unemployment on small business because "they've learned to be more productive with fewer employees, which is good for profits but not good for hiring." That they should be more worried about hiring people than their profits...

Clearly as the head of what is basically the only "business" that doesn't have to turn a profit to stay afloat, he clearly doesn't understand how important your profits are. But I honestly can't believe I heard that today. I'm baffled. This guy is dumber than I ever could have thought. Want them to hire more people--maybe you ought to cut their taxes so they can make a profit AND hire new employees...hmm, maybe that makes too much sense to him. But does he not realize that in saying that, if everyone were to go along with it, not only would it kill the economy and MANY businesses in the long run--but if they're not making money then the government is going to lose A LOT of tax revenue. While i don't agree with you about Bush, it is funny, because i had this conversation with my fiancee the other day.

She worked as an archivist at Harvard for 3 years after undergrad before heading back to graduate school at UofM.

According to her, almost every Ivy league school, in the last 10 years, has tried to get rid of the "legacy" system in one way or another because it really does lower the quality of students at the school. But then they realize that money from alumni donations might/would drop dramatically, they scrap it.

The alumni freak out, and the idea is dropped.

She met plenty of students who had NO business being at Harvard, but they were a "legacy," so they essentially got in only because of that.

To be honest, I think (gasp), I may be more to the right than my huddle lover.

I didn't so much vote for Obama as much as I voted against Sara Palin (I know, stupid reason, but I really don't like her). I thought the Obama ticket was the best of the viable options.

If McCain didn't let himself get taken over by the Bush campaign folks and portrayed himself as a true independent he would have gotten my vote. Despite all that, i still have a lot of respect for him. FYI, my parents, Jewish, NY-ers (i mean do you get more liberal than that?) voted for McCain. In reality though, my mom was hoping Hillary Clinton would have gotten the Dem nod.

I am very curious to see how the Obama term plays out. And equally as curious to see who the Republicans put up in 2012. And most of all I hope that one day we can go beyond the two-party system.

If our government cuts taxes for business owners, who else is going to pay for a government instituted massive social program?
Also, don't forget, business owners have to have their taxes increased in order for the government to get the ball rolling on a single payer health insurance system in about 10-15-20 years.

Obviously, lots of kids do get their by merits, smarts, etc. I have numerous friends who fit into that category.

But personal experience and observations from those close to me point to the fact that the "legacy" system is running rampant in Ivy world.

Granted I don't know the validity of these sites (CNN maybe), but according to my sources Bush got a 1206 on his SATs.

Now that isn't a bad score. I mean he did better than Jessie (1205!) Spano. However no average person gets into a top IVY with an SAT score under 1300 (i'm thinking in terms of the old SATs of course). I got a (respectable, I think) score of 1260 on mine and the best I did in terms of the IVY league was get wait-listed at Barnard.

So my point is that while Bush isn't a complete dullard as many would claim, I stand by my post that he got into Yale because of his family connections.
