No one...and I mean NO ONE...has had to go through what he's gone through the past 10 years. No one can say they know how it feels...or what they would do...or what he's done wrong. To me, his attitude has been awesome and he keeps trying. He needs, and deserves, a break or two. As a matter of fact, if anyone can "save" NASCAR from their dwindling ratings and popularity, it's him and only him.

My only bitch about JR is he is the worst interview, post race, in NASCAR history. He'll say how he was happy to finish wherever, bla bla sponsors, bla bla team, bla bla Racer X cut me off, bla bla team was bad today, bla bla pit stops sucks, but I should have drove better, bla I'm not sure what happened in the wreck, but I'm disappointed in our finish..WTF ???

To bad he couldn't let it all out like his Dad did. He's to busy trying to fill in stuff instead of telling it like it is.

at the end of the race my friend showed me his hot pass. It was autographed by Trevor Bayne early this week. They met by registration, talked for 30 minutes while Bayne waited on his ride. I'm told he is a really nice kid. He drew a 21 and Jesus fish by his autograph. I'll bet its a long time before Trevor has to wait on a ride like that again.

Not to take anything away from Bayne and the team, but this is what Nascar has become. They've evened out the equipment to the point that a guy in his 2nd start ever can with the Daytona freaking 500.

Bayne is good. Damn good. I don't think it has anything to do with evening out the equipment. Harvick won in his 3rd race. Jimmie Johnson won 3 races as a rookie. Jamie McMurray won in just his 2nd cup start as well. The list goes on and on. Those are just a couple off the top of my head.

What a joke.

The kid ran a great race, give him props--how do you know he isn't the next big thing? The equipment SHOULD be evened out, and it is, yet Johnson has won 5 straight. Equipment is even, as it should be, so the best drivers/teams win. Bayne was the best yesterday, and he had some luck which is a must in that type of racing. Your post really just sounds flat out stupid.

Junior on the other hand, had terrible luck--but what's new? Story of his racing career. Had a good run though, hoping he can stay up front all season finally.

What did Gordon have to do with him yesterday? Nothing. He was 'teamed' up with Ragan most of the day. He pushed Gordon all day Thursday. How is Gordon his 'mentor'? He ran just fine Thursday before Gordon had anything to do with him.

Yes. It's not the Iroc series. Well, actually it is.

Ok, ok. I get that rookies win. I admit that was a stupid example.

But teams should be able to BUILD cars. Manufacturers should be able to design advantages. The cars, the tracks; they are cookie cutter. Hell, when you start a Nascar team they should give you a stock car kit to build, like a Boy Scout does for pinewood derby. Damn, another bad example, they can build there car to give themselves an advantage.

I get what you're saying, and to a point, I do agree with you. But, is seeing one guy (i.e. Richard Petty) win every week because he has a clear advantage and more money fun? No. To me, that's 'yawn'. People don't want to see that. But I do agree that the owners that spend millions of dollars on their cars, shouldn't be even with the owners that spend hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. You may not see an advantage, but they know what they are doing. You telling me Knaus doesn't push the gray area enough to give the 48 car more of an advantage over the other cars? I'm going to say hell yea he does. Just because you can't see the advantage, and there aren't only 5 cars on the lead lap at the end of the race like in the 70's, doesn't mean that some cars don't still have an edge over the others.

I agree with you 100% on that one. NASCAR can make all the changes they want, but as I said in my post, it's killing the sport when the most popular driver is stinking it up every week.

I don't think Junior stinks it up most of the time. If you REALLY pay attention rather than just look at where he finishes, he has the worst luck in the business. He runs up front for a LONG time in A LOT of races. But then something happens in the pit, he gets caught right behind a wreck and put into the wall, etc. This week is a good example, he ran a great race, then when that caution comes out he had a tire going down and has to go in--nothing he did, just shitty luck. Goes back out, still time to get a top 10, but since that tire went down he got back in the pack and ended up in the crash. That's seriously the story of his career, I'm not trying to claim he's the best driver but he's damn good. There are too many drivers in NASCAR that can go from 43 to 15-16 in about the first 10 laps of the Daytona 500. He just always has something go wrong at the worst time.

Let's be honest, it's not like he's had much to be excited about though. I personally hate the "We ran great today..but ummmm..we could have...ummmmm..done a little bit better. Ummmmm..the pit crew was...ummmm...making good stops all day. Ummmm...but I just couldn't get it done....ummmm"

That's just how NASCAR is today though. You gotta watch what you say because you can't piss off the sponsors...you lose a sponsor, and that's a big hit to your race team.

Eh...alot of that 'bad luck' he brings on himself. Miscommunications, missing pit boxes, etc. If you notice, when he runs up front most of the time, it's during the middle of the race when everyone else is just riding around knocking off laps. He's seldom up front towards the end when it counts. Not taking anything away from Jr, because he does have talent, but a lot of the stuff he does himself.

He certainly makes mistakes, they all do. Rarely does ANYONE run a mistake free race. But there isn't much he can do for things like his engine blowing up, tires going down at bad times, getting caught in the big crash, etc.

You are right too. There is definitely a happy medium. They aren't there now. I think the best Nascar racing was ever going to get was the late 80s into mid-late 90s. It's gotten worse since the, IMO. COT ruined it for me. The cookie cutter racetracks ruined it for me. The over-commercialization with robot interviews ruined it for me. Nascar's day-to-day rulebook ruined it for me. Sponsors clamoring over the young pretty boys so they can sell their product better ruined it for me.

Also, I'm not saying there are better teams and drivers than others. Of course there is. And there should be. But it seems Nascar doesn't want it. They do everything they can to make sure the field is as even as it can be. That is ok up to a point, but it can and is overdone. Let the good teams be good. And the bad teams be bad. You talk about Petty winning all the races, but we have that now with Johnson. So what have they accomplished?

Drivers can have a lot to do with the engine blowing, and running over stuff on the track to get the flat tire. I'm not taking anything away from him, cause I already said that I think there is talent there, but a lot of the mistakes he does. He just doesn't seem to pay attention or what not. I don't know what it is, I'm not a race car driver. But some of the stuff he does just seems very stupid. Like it was because of a lack of focus or something. Regardless, I see him turning it around this year.

All of that is true, but there are definitely far more things that can go wrong with the engine that the driver can't control. I mean if you bust a piston or your block cracks, that's more often than not just bad luck.
