So, you're telling me that Troy Smith DIDN'T win the Heisman and play Florida with a more spread oriented team? Did they still line up in the I? Of course, but 2006 OSU was without a doubt spread oriented. Also Illinois with Juice Williams had a few really good years.
After watching this year's team. I truly feel that the "spread" can/will work in the Big 10. Of the 5 loses we had this year, I think 2 or 3 of them could have been won with a much better defense (Looking at Iowa, Penn State, and one more between MSU,Wisky,OSU). My personal opinion is that RR has improved every year as far as records are concerned.
If he doesn't go at least 8-4/9-3 next year, then he is gone.

All those games were played in warm weather LOL.
But yes, Spread offenses can work, if you have the coach/talent to make it work.

This scumbag should have been fired after his first year. The helmet alone should win 7 ball games a year. I truly think he only knows one type of offense and is too arrogant to try something else.

Nebraska won plenty of games int he cold in Nebraska runnin the spread in the 90's.

Bucks get the win, in impressive fashion w/ a strong 2nd and 3rd quarter... now the Bucks have to wait it out to see if they'll be extended a BCS at-large bid, which I think will happen

There is a HUGE difference between a Spread Offense and a Gimmick Offense. Gimmick offence = an offense that has a 5"11" 175 wide receiver playing QB. An offense where your "QB" runs more than your running backs.Hb31187;577977 wrote:Or Texas Tech over Texas

Its not like Denard has passed for only like 700 yds or something on the season. Hes thrown just as accurate and for nearly as many yards as TP

More ignorance. Troy Smith DID NOT quarterback a "spread offense" at Ohio State. Troy Smith rarely ran on a designed running play. How oftern does RichRod's QB run on designed running plays? You don't recall Pitman and Beanie running out of the I-formation with Troy Smith handiing them the ball? Ohio State ran out of multiple and diverse formations when Troy Smith was QB at Ohio State.

The Option offense, although many teams have been using variants of it, have been around since the beginning of football. If anything, purists are going to find them the least "gimmicky". To tell you the truth, I don't know what a "gimmick" offense would be in many people's eyes. To me mainly Hawaii's offense would be a "gimmick" offense
