So I got a new computer and it has a CD/DVD burner. I am very competent doing the audio cds but am unable to burn a DVD. Im not sure what im doing wrong or if i need another type of program. It has NERO currently as the CD/DVD burning software. I wanted to burn season 1 of THE WIRE and I downloaded it off of Demenoid it downloaded and it is on my computer. but when i watch it it doesnt play. It says wrong format/codec??? the format is currently AVI? Anyway I want to burn Season 1 of THE WIRE and the movie THE TOWN. Do i need another program? I know that both are out there on the internet. thanks in advance

If you are trying to rip a "real" DVD to make a copy of it, it is copyrighted. You have to "burn as an image" -- I believe is what it is called.

I've done it, but it's been over a year.

Since it is copyrighted, you cannot just "burn DVD," burning it as an "image" gets around the copyrighting.

Someone can correct me if I am wrong.

1. demonoid.com
2. search: anydvd
3. Download and install
4. Repeat step 1
5. search: clonedvd
6. Download and install
7. Put in any movie (even blu-ray)
8. anydvd scans automatically
9. open clonedvd
10. select the drive you are reading from
11. select the drive you are writing to
12. click start (note you need a blu-ray +/- RW drive to burn blu-ray)

Nope. You are indeed wrong. This doesn't work.

Well shoot. I know I did it. It has something to do with burning it as an image.

I only managed to get a couple DVDs ripped and burnt. I'll ask my buddy, he'll remember how to do it.

Well in the first place, where do you want to watch your freshly downloaded content? Your TV I'm assuming? And you want to burn it to a DVD because you have no means of hooking your computer to your tv and you don't have a xbox 360 or PS3 to hook a external hard drive or flash drive to? Your "wrong codec" problem sounds like you just need to download VLC player and play it with that and it will work.

If someone wants to burn a DVD that they have, use DVD Decrypter.

I use DVDFab. It rips it to .vob files, then those can be converted to .iso, .avi, .wmv, etc.

anydvd and clonedvd are very easy to use...sadly, I paid for them though.

i may still. they update quite often and the torrents don't allow you to freely update so every now and then i have to get a newer version when some new encryption pops up.

plus they do a lot of good work so it'd be nice to throw those guys a bone.

I had to try to use Windows DVD Maker yesterday actually to make a DVD. I am fairly close to knowing how to completely reprogram a computer in its entirety and had difficulty burning a damn DVD.

It ended with me in a crowded library screaming profanities after 2 hours.

I got the message back from my buddy. This is how I did it:

DVD Shrink, puts the DVD in a form that will fit on a DVD save it as an .iso and then burn the .iso.

He said there are other times where it won't get past the security and he has another way for that. But the above method worked for me. Just downloaded DVD Shrink and went from there.
