Or, being from the same state, they were familiar with Kempt, and knew their son couldn't beat him out.

Yeah and there was a second shooter on the grassy knoll. Do you see ghosts too?

Or maybe the kid wants a shot at a State Title

You know where the choice of those 2 schools would be.

Plus, he probably already knows how to read, so there's nothing left for him to learn at your school

How's that Massillon report card looking now a days? hahahahaha

Haha, I've been saying this all along, good to see you're finally agreeing with me, why would you go to a public school, when you can go to an all-sta....er, I mean, a parochial school that is basically allowed to recruit? The kid has the all the tools he needs to be successful, a rb from Rocky River, a te from Brecksville, an ot from Berea.

My stating that he probably recieved an athletic scholarship is the equivelent of the JFK assasination? That's right, JFK was Catholic also, wasn't he? I remember all the stories about how the old man bought his way into office....You Catholic boys never change your stripes do ya?

Ya...I messed that one all up. I meant to quote the part where he said "blah blah blah you wouldn't be his spelling teacher."

That's what I get for trying to slam the skankster while watching the Reds on TV.

If anyone involved with the Mooney administration reads Rockets posts on OC, look for Mooney to offer a spelling class soon.

No we don't. And your blatant racism against Catholics should at least be noted so that anyone with half of a brain will realize that you are not worth talking to. I'm done trying to reason with a person as screwed up as you are.

St. Edward fined, reprimanded for two recruiting violations by Ohio High School Athletic Association
Tim Warsinskey, The Plain Dealer, April 19, 2011 5:47 p.m.

St. Edward was fined $250 and sent a letter of reprimand following two recruiting violations, including a LAKEWOOD, Ohio - St. Edward has been fined and reprimanded for two recruiting violations, the Ohio High School Athletic Association said Tuesday.

The school was fined $250 and received a letter of reprimand in February.

"The third part is an expectation that the instances that occurred will not happen again," OHSAA spokesperson Tim Stried said.

Stried said St. Edward last fall hosted a "meet the coaches night," which is a violation of a bylaw that prohibits initiating contact with prospective student-athletes.

St. Edward also sent out hundreds of invitations to prospective students for an open house, which is permissible. "But there were a couple student-athletes that were specifically followed up with to attend, which a violation," Stried said.

St. Edward principal Eugene Boyer said the violations resulted in a long dialogue with the OHSAA, which Boyer said led to some current referendums to possibly change recruiting bylaws.

"I thought it was a learning experience for both of us," Boyer said. "There was confusion around the bylaws and that's why the new referendums are there to clear it up." Stried said changes in bylaws often happen after instances such as this one, but he did not know if the current proposals are a direct result of conversations with St. Edward.

The OHSAA's May referendum ballot proposes changes to the definition of prospective student-athletes. One proposal would permit coaches to have contact with seventh- and eighth-grade students who are enrolled in their district or, in the case of private schools, in "a non-public school of the same type." Another bylaw proposal defines what is permissible for mass marketing of schools to prospective students.

OHSAA member principals will vote on the referendum proposals the first two weeks of May.

Seems reasonable to me. Both parties have benefited and presented clear actions regarding the above referenced situation.

The thing that continues to stand out to me is that existing rules imply that defined schools districts "own the rights" to certain kids which is ridiculous in it's out right.

Schools should be able to contact any 7th or 8th graders they want, as long as the contact is about the entire academic, musical, artistic, spiritual, etc. aspects of the school. Most of the public schools already have massive recruiting organizations, from early grade school. They're called wee sports programs, run generally by parents who are fanatics for the local public school. They groom the kids to play at the public schools. I don't see any reason why the privates can't try to get as many kids as they can to go to the privates, for whatever reason - especially the competitive advantage of a private school education. If the publics don't like it, then stop picking your stars in 4th grade and give everybody a chance. You'd be surprised at the results you might get.

Competition is good - should be fostered, not stopped before it starts. As Con-Alma says, it's ridiculous that some schools think they "own the rights" to certain kids.
