If Jason Hall rented a home, THAT HE OWNED, to an football player who wanted to move to Massillon, how do you think that would be taken? Not well I'll tell you.

Maybe Massillon could set up a combine for kids from the communities of Perry, Jackson, Tuslaw, Northwest, North Canton, Plain Twp. No different than the doings of Ignatius, St Ed, Benedictine....Etc.

Why would Massillon limit themselves to those communities? "If" they have a combine why not bring in kids from Michigan, Oregon, etc.?

You mean like parochials? Like the QB from Oregon who's dad wanted him to play for St. Ignatius so he NOW plays for st. Ignatius. There was no mention there about getting an education from St. Ignatius, just playing football for them. I thought that was illegal?

I can't find anything in what you have explained that is against the OHSAA rules and certainly not anything "illegal".

So transferring for football only purposes are NOT Illegal? His parents still own a house in Oregon, and I believe, from what I read, his mother still resides there. Oh, that's right, Ignatius is a parochial school, different set of rules.

Not at all. It's not illegal. Anyone can transfer for football purposes only as long as they are enrolled as a student. I don't know what you are talking about.

St. Ignatius doesn't have a different set of rules. They are the same rules all schools adhere to.

So if a QB from Oregon plays for Massillon it is all good? But if a QB from Oregon plays for St. Ignatius it is illegal? Do you know the meaning of the word hypocrite?

But does he have family still in Oregon? I know the rules are always changing, but according to the law of skank, if you still have family in Oregon and play in Ohio it is cheating :) Or is it only cheating if you have family Oregon and play at a private school? I'm sure his answer will be entertaining. It always is.

Skank's law:

1. It is only cheating if a parochial school does it.
2. When there is a doubt see rule #1.
3. Massillon is exempt from all rules.

Any school that tries to recruit based primarily on athletics is breaking the rules. Same rules, regardless of type of school. Sending letters touting the school is not illegal, no matter to whom the letters are sent, so long as the total experience and not primarily athletics are touted. It is exactly the same, Skank.

As for me, my 62nd birthday was Monday. Besides, I played 4 full years, baseball and football and in college, so my eligibility is used up. My kids are in their 30's. I still love to get the letters from the public school and my Catholic school. I've also supported both over the years in many ways.

We need all the strong schools we can get, Skank. I'm for giving kids all the opportunities we can, in any endeavors they want to undertake. That includes music, religion, arts, academics, social outlets, athletics, everything. I've heard parents and kids talk about reasons they go to particular schools over the years - everything from diversity to academic rigor to athletics to music program to religion. Every person has different reasons.

Your problem is that you're one dimensional - if people choose to go somewhere other than your public school or some other public school, your bias is that the school MUST be cheating. Sometimes people have a preference. So again, get over it.

Loved the announcement they read at the Massillon/Hoban game friday night....Over and Over. Just can't figure out why the had to keep announcing that, for any prospective student interested, the coaches would be in attendence also.

So let me get this straight. They made an announcement "over and over" at the game about students who would like to attend Hoban. Correct? OVER and OVER? Those damn Catholics must be trying something illegal. Is that what you mean Skank?

Replace the word students, with the word athletes, why else would the statement, "the coaches will be in attendence also", even need to be said?

Because athletics are an additional part of the curricular activities offered. They are extra and it's not assumed that the administrators of the extra events would be present so it makes sense to announce such a thing, especially when it's being announced at an extracurricular event itself.

Public schools are the default for families if a choice is not made. It's automatic if a different choice is not made. Private schools must convince families to select them over the default. Making such an announcement was exactly the right thing to do...something the public school can and probably should do also.

For some....ACADEMICS are the additional part. Hence the announcement that the coaches would be on hand.

If it were the Academics being the "additional part" it wouldn't be assumed that they would be present in which case it would be announced that the teachers would be present.

Are you sure that you want to compare the academics of Hoban and Massillon and determine which school treats them as an additional part?

Wow, you really got me there.

No, I don't want to compare them, which is why I'm on a football board and not a academic board. What I AM trying to compare, and have been for about 120 pages, are the rules seperating publics and privates.

This has me wondering, during the Cleveland area combines, when middle school CHILDREN were trying to decide which parochial school they would attend....for athletic purposes....Was there an announcement that teachers would be attending the combines? I mean, after all, kids don't just base what school they will attend simply on football do they?

Here is the only rule that is different for publics and privates. Which side does it favor? http://www.ohsaa.org/eligibility/bylaw4-7.htm

Bylaw 4-7-2, EXCEPTION 6 — A student shall be entitled to one transfer back to the public school district within which the student’s parent residence is located regardless of from where the student is transferring. HOWEVER, if the student utilizes this exception, the student will no longer be able to utilize the superintendent’s agreement exception set forth in Exception 5 in Bylaw 4-7-2.
