All this poll shows is that people must not understand the realities of our bicameral legislature and unitary executive. Regardless if you think that the health care changes are the spawn of Satan, its repeal is not likely any time soon with Democrats in control of both the Senate and the Presidency.

Poland, OH -- Representative-elect Bill Johnson has announced his decision to turn down Congressional health care benefits as he enters the House of Representatives.



The decision, Johnson says, is based on his belief that members of Congress shouldn't have access to premium health care benefits when millions of Americans are struggling just to make ends meet.



"Lincoln famously put forth the notion that government should be of the people, by the people and for the people," Johnson said. "This is one substantial way I can show that my commitment to the people of Eastern and Southern Ohio is to help them, not to gain exclusive benefits for myself."



Johnson said Congress must focus on repealing Obama Health Care and instead adopt patient-based, market-driven health care solutions.



"I oppose ObamaCare because government-controlled health care will create more debt and huge bureaucracy," Johnson said. "We need to reverse the government takeover of our health care, and we should adopt common sense, patient-centered, private sector solutions like making health care portable from job to job and state to state, tort reform, and promoting health savings accounts."



In addition to declining Congressional health care, Representative-elect Johnson will turn down the government 401K program and the associated matching portion that is paid for by taxpayers.

Glad I voted for the guy.

Let's hope he can get some other things accomplished, also!

I don't consider 51% nearly enough support for "good policy". I have a feeling those numbers split largely along the lines of who expects to benefit vs. who expects to have a net cost. 1. A legislator falsely calls it, like so many other intellectually dishonest people, a "government takeover" of health care when that is completely untrue as this bill more than anything guarantees millions of new customers for private health insurers.

2. He says he wants private sector solutions portable from job to job when this bill requires americans to have private health insurance regardless of whether they are employed and creates a federal market place where people can purchase private insurance from other states.

Obama was initially in favor of single payer, yes. However, once the backlash started to occur, he dropped it-to the anger of many progressives (I know I work with some haha). The idea was then to try and create a system that worked alongside the private sector and up to the passage and signign the bil lthat is what you heard.

I believe, and maybe I naive here, that the President and HHS changed their policy to try and reflect the voting public. Now, that said, Congress still screwed the sucker up, but maintained the basic premise the President wanted. But, that is my reading of it all.

This is where your noggin comes into play. Do you honestly think they will come out and say..."oh boy, we sure hope this fails". No...they may be socialists, but they're not stupid. They all have stated their ultimate goal. This is just a step along the way and Barney DID say that. If you follow how it's been playing out since it was passed, what do you see?

1. Premiums rising to cover more risk assigned to the insurance carriers (pre-existing conditions and anyone under 27 years old)
2. Companies asking for waivers because they have no idea how they'll be impacted.
3. Companies raising the employees contribution to health care premiums.
4. Companies seriously discussing terminating providing their health care benefits to their employeees and just paying the fine.

All of these things point towards insurance carriers having significant troubles ahead. For single payer to come riding in on the socialist's white horse, they need to be seen as the savior as insurance costs skyrocket and companies discard this benefit as it's to their bottom-line benefit to pay the fine rather than the premiums. It's actually very easy to see if you play out the dynamics of it all...I'm surprised at your inability to diagnose it.

Where in my post did you see where I stated that they wanted Obamacare to fail? Answer: you didn't.

The point of my post, and past postings, is that the people who want single payer have officially got their proverbial foot in the door for it. The goal is to hammer at it and hammer at it, and over the period of 5, 10, 20 or so years from now they will have their ultimate prize. It comes out of their own mouths, and one of them being the President - who by the way immediately changed his tune once becoming the President, because it was politically in his favor to do so, not because he changed his mind.
Like it or not, there's a special interest for single payer and they've gotten into alot of back pockets in our federal government. The democratic politicians don't like things like this to be known, because after all, they're "looking out for YOU", the little guy on the totem pole (wink wink nudge nudge).
Heck, even dems on this board: instead of looking at what these people are doing with an open mind and honest observance, will question the motives of the people who repeat and show verbatim what this group is doing and saying. It boggles my mind, honestly. ESPECIALLY when in the space of a short year, it's been shown many times that some of the most powerful players in our government are planning ahead for single payer, and folks still want to shoot the messenger.

We seriously need to quit expecting politicians to fix our healthcare system and put some people that are actually in the medical field in charge of healthcare. I'm so sick of know it alls like on the hill that think they can fix anything. Newsflash the government has never fixed anything. They only make things worse.
