The OHSAA should be ashamed to allow some of these individuals call games. Alder vs Alter...that crew was a frick'in joke.

You got specifics or do you just watch a lot of football on TV?

^^^you should have been at the game. Last count 12 individuals called the OHSAA today to voice a complaint. Poor losers? No. That was the worst officiated game many of us had ever seen.

The odds of the OHSAA telling anyone that information is about as likely that hell froze over today.

To give a little credit to the OHSAA playoff refs. During the regular season my team Sylvania Southview would be penalized about 5-6 times a game for holding often times negating a few touchdowns. But when we played our first round playoff game guess what? No holding penalties and it seemed as if the linemen blocked the same way as before. So take it for what its worth.

I've made two terrible calls so far in my basketball scrimmages.

There aren't exactly people lining up to be high school officials.

The OHSAA takes and uses exactly what they get signing up.

I'm not saying that this game wasn't terribly officiated, but another thing that most fans don't realize is that we officials actually see the entire game. 90% of the fans are just watching the ball, and are only pulling for their team. 100%, yes 100% of fans, place in an officiating position, would have nights (probably many nights) where a majority of the crowd thought they were terrible. I've been there. Hell, I've been quite terrible on some nights. Just a fact of life in officiating.

I guess it was more in reference to your last statement, that the OHSAA gets "what they get." I'm in agreement with you. Don't know why I quoted you. Seemed right at the time. Get off my back!

So 12 mom's or dad's were upset that little Johnie's team lost? Give examples of what happened or you are just making excuses for your team getting beat by a better one.

Holding and block in the back are the most misunderstood rules in football. Most fans have no clue what the philosophy of officiating is.

Agreed. Along with the twelve examples, I'd like to see examples of the actual complaints and from whom they came.

Indeed. To go with Ernest's post about being a basketball official, one of my favorite fan-related memories concerning refs came during a basketball game. Team A got called for one or two five-second calls, so one particularly vocal fan started loudly counting "1-2-3-4..." while the Team B was handling the ball. Only one problem: Team A wasn't putting pressure on the ball and five-second calls only come into play when the defense is on the ball-handler. Just a total lack of knowledge by the dude in the crowd, which tends to be par for the course. At least that would explain the "call 'em both ways" crowd that doesn't seem to be able to comprehend that one team might have more penalties/fouls than the other for the crazy reason that they are committing more penalties/fouls.

As for this thread, yeah...if you're going to say the refs stunk, at least give explanations of plays you feel they botched. This thread, as is, seems little more than a "My local team who I thought would win state got beat in the second round! IT WAS THE REFS' FAULT!!!!" rant.

^^^why give explanations? You weren't there. It's my word and others. Take it or leave it. This is a message board. 12 individuals including myself called in to complain. 9 of us have no kids on the team so the "mommy daddy" littledoggie explanation doesn't work. And by the way 5 of these individuals that called in played four years of college football. I tend to believe they also know bad calls when they see them. Game over. Nothing can be done about it. However, the refs were a frick'in joke and many of us hope they don't get to officiate any more games this year.

The worst call I heard of was a call by a ref for aggressively blocking downfield away from the play.The whistle had not blown and the player was assessed a 15 yard penalty.When the coach and the player asked for clarification the ref said it was obvious and you know what you were doing.legal blocking is part of the game as you never can tell what will happen on a play.

Yes and playing collage football doesn't make you an expert on high school football rules. Not even the same rules! Maybe you don't have kids playing on the team but you certainty are trying to live your so called glory days all over again. Do yourself a favor and get another hobby, it's just a bunch of 17 & 18 year old kids for Gods sake. Maybe you should sign up and take the officiating test and let someone else see how much better you can do. I suspect you don't have the guts.

QFT. I'd imagine that most persons who think they know football would fail epically being on the field and attempting to officiate a junior high game. The OP has no clue what it takes.

What does the whistle have to do with contact away from the ball? I'll give you a clue; nothing.
