Trying to steal the headlines from the Steelers on this NFL Sunday.

:D yeah right

But it sounds like Hurdle will be the guy to lose a lot next.

All things considered, it's not a total choke hire.

He took the Rockies to the World Series in 2007 and seems like a likeable guy.

Im not sure anyone can salvage the franchise right now, but Hurdle is a very good hire.

I can imagine walking out of Heinz Field after a victory and walking to PNC Park for a World Series game.

Interesting, considering the fact you said you don't give a shit about baseball and you don't like the pirates....

Good luck Clint, you'll need it! The Pirates will continue to suck until the Nutting's sell the team.

^^^^^That's what hurts! The Pirates have had a couple of decent managers but you're only as good as your players who the Nuttings like to firesale every year.

Could be a good spot for Hurdle IF their young guys develop properly. The main dudes (A. McCutchen, Alvarez, Tabata, etc.) are signed through 2015, which means they should be with the team for a few years. If they can seriously upgrade their starting pitching (have a good number of quality minor league arms that COULD be contributers in the bigs by late next year or 2012) and hit a bit more consistently, they have the potential to win.

Interesting little story. Hurdle was in the running for the Mets job, but turned down a second interview to take the Pittsburgh gig. Seems his daughter has one of those rare diseases and Pittsburgh has some of the best facilities as far as caring for that disease goes -- which made the Pirates an actual attractive job for him.
