After seeing many games played in Region 11, I would rate the best four teams, in order, as:
Sheridan
Steubenville
Dover
Marlington
No need for haters, it is only my opinion.
Good luck to the Dukes, wish you the best in the tournament.
Thanks for the great season Dover.
See you all in August 2011.......
I wouldn't go quite this far. I must admit, I saw Big Red play a couple times on TV and then in person against Dover. I only saw Sheridan once against Dover, and I saw Marlington a few times on TV then against Dover. I would have rated Steubenville as the best team in this region. Dover just played a near perfect game against them. It was a game going in that I figured Dover would need to play their absolute best to win, and they did that. It was probably as well as I have seen a Dover team play considering the stakes, at least offensively.
The Sheridan game Dover did not play their best, but neither did Sheridan. Sheridan ended up making the killer mistake, Dover took advantage and won.
The Marlington game Dover played a lot like they did against Sheridan. Except the Dukes played pretty much perfect football, except for all of the penalties. If Dover plays like they did against Big Red they would have had a shot, but they didn't and their season is over.
It really doesn't matter how you rate the teams. It was all about matchups in Region 11 come playoff time. I think Big Red would have beat Marlington because they had the athletes in the front 7 to stop the triple option without having to commit their DB's to the run the way Dover did, giving up the huge pass plays. But it doesn't matter because Big Red didn't match-up well that first weekend against Dover's spread attack. Marlington has played the best football in Region 11 and they are moving on to play Buchtel.
Good Luck to the Dukes.
