Steubenville has had two of its natives on the cover of Sports Illustrated and another feature article on the Steubenville Big Red football team .......
Sept. 27 1954 Calvin Jones Cover
March 16th 1981 Rollie Fingers Cover
Dec 17th 1984 with Eric Dickerson on the cover ...Steubenville Big Red had a flattering article in SI and the OVAC for not awarding the Ohio state champ the crown a not so flattering commentary

Massillon had the 100th meeting with McKinley covered in SI. SI also has them listed in their top HS stadiums. Also, in the OSU special edition several years back, they listed cities that are important to the history of OSU, and Massillon was one of them. They also did a small blurb on the movie, 'Go Tigers'.

How about a Wheaties box? LOL.

Nope...but my high school has won multiple state championships since they started deciding it on the field. Can you say the same?

And my high school is still playing football this year. Can you say the same?

Sorry.

And for the record...numerous Mooney grads have had articles about them in Sports Illustrated (like the Stoops brothers).

And Boom Boom Mancini...another Mooney grad...was on the cover.

From Campbell, OH

Gene Cvercko made the cover in 1963 while playing at Northwestern. The town is lucky to have 10,000 people or so, but not sure of the population back then.

Ironically, he's not even in the schools athletic hall of fame.

The cover was actually featured in last weeks issue (San Fran Giants cover) in the Vault feature.

We have had two people on the cover of the mag.....although many of you guys point out many articles few have been on the covers...I have all of them in front of me..........The Wheaties box thing had me confused at first ....I was looking for Spielman on the cover of SI but then I found it was the Wheaties box.......I wanted to shed more light on how great our town is .....We have also had people involved in almost every major sport as pro members or major influences ...hockey and auto racing are a few that we have not represented at the elite level ,although we may have had a few semi pro hockey players ...

Why didn't you just post this at first instead of being a HUGE tool?

Because I am more concerned with how my team will do in the second round of the playoffs. And honestly, people bragging over how many times their school has been in or on the cover of Sports Illustrated is stupid, in my opinion.

I'm actually kind of bummed that Steubenville and Massilon lost in the first week of the playoffs...it means an extra couple of weeks of completely stupid threads like this.

I know your thoughts on Mooney, and the Mooney way. You've whined about it plenty of times on here. The bottom line, Mooney has never done anything illegal. And your jealousy is actually kind of pathetic at this point.

I thought it was interesting to point out the SI covers and if you got a guy from Youngstown on the cover then enlighten us if not maybe you should do something else with your time ...
