Yeah Diebler is like Colt Brennan/Graham Harrell of Ohio High School basketball. System player that puts up #'s because of the system he plays in. Good...But def not the best scorer or player to play in Ohio history.

Thank god for Turner and Diebler, those two and a spark by Simmons won this game. I really noticed some bad body language by Bufford on the bench and during the game, Thad needs to get this kid on board or he will be a cancer to the team.


Say what you want about Diebler, when he's on he can win or keep OSU in a big game that is what happen vs FSU. His streaky shooting can be a good thing , plus he's 94% from the free throw line.

Amazing that some people STILL rip on Deibler after he played a great game last nite. If not for him, OSU struggles to beat FSU last nite.
Some of you really need to get over your HATE for Deibler. Seriously, its childish!! The kid plays as hard as anyone, all the time on the floor. He dives on the floor, he is emotional and gets others going. Is he a great athlete? Absolutely not, in regards to others at this level. But the can guy flat out shoot the rock!
What some of you morons dont' realize, is that it was Deibler who opened things up for Turner and Simmons to do what they did in the second half. Teams cannot leave Deibler alone, can't help off of him, which opens up the floor for Turner and others to do what they do.
Deibler is the perfect fit for this team. Every team needs a player like this. If you remember a great Florida team, they had a guy named Lee Humphrey who did exactly what Diebler is doing.
Get off of Deibler and SUPPORT your team and their players. Some of you are truely pathetic.

And i agree with CBF, the amount of hate for Diebler is unreal. Any OSU fan should be proud to have a class guy like him representing the university. One of my favorites.

Must be a lot of guys on here who played HS ball against Dieber and got laughed out of the gym.

I've been criticial of Diebler and will likely continue to be, but he played outstanding last night. I love him when he shoots with confidence and aggressively looks for his shot. My problem with him is when he isn't like that.

He started the game 2-4 from 3, and I knew he would have a great game. Because he's a confidence player. He just needs to get over that. If he misses his first 5 shots he needs to continue to be aggressive and have confidence he will make his next shot. With Diebler playing well, it takes this team to another level.


Other thoughts from the game:
1. Lauderdale is playing well. I don't care what the box score says, he's OSU's only interior presence and he is playing strong in the paint. I just hope he can consistently stay out of foul trouble because Madsen is awful.

2. Florida State was BAD! They were terrible offensively. Throwing the ball away, taking bad shots, having no fluidity. Pretty pathetic honestly.

3. Where is OSU's bench? They can't surive the entire season playing 6 guys. PJ Hill has to get a few minutes a game. How can you have a 3rd year college basketball player that is 7 foot that isn't better than Kyle Madsen?

4. Off of point 3, Turner is going to wear down. He is doing too much for this team and there is no way he can keep it up through an entire year.

I thought Madsen gave them some good minutes last night.

1. I thought Lauderdale did "ok" last nite. Fouls hurt him. Madsen did well off the bench.
2. Agree to an extent. But I was pleasantly pleased with OSU MM defense. They were really up into FSU in the first half. Then switched to more zone second half. FSU didn't play well, agree...but OSU played pretty well defensively overall.
3. Not sure what was up with PJ. Was suprising not seeing him get some time.
4. I don't think so. He played major minutes last year. He is young, in great shape. I also believe as the season progresses, Matta will get him a minute or two to rest.
Last nite, against a VERY athletic big team, I think Matta had to do what he had to do. There will be game that some guys are able to play, and match up. And there will be games like last nite, where Matta has to stick with his main players.

1. I think my expectations for Lauderdale are not much. I actually thought Florida States 7 footer was pretty good and Lauderdale kept him in check for the most part. Plus, he has a lot of pressure on him being the only real big. Madsen did well for his capabilities. He always plays hard, he's just so overmatched in a physical standpoint.

2. No doubt OSU's defense contributed to some of that. But Florida State just looked awful at times. I have said that OSU could be a really good defensive team if they all buy into it.

4. As the season progresses? I disagree. I think Matta is not only wearing down Turner, but also Lighty and Diebler. If you are going to ask them to play 40 minutes every game, you better at least use your timeouts better to get them regular rest other than the media timeouts. OSU got worn down at the end of last year, I don't know why this year would be any different especially considering that they are playing more man to man.

OSU was up nearly 20 points late in the game, and he still didn't use his bench. If he's not using a bench with a 15-20 point cushion, he never will.

I think that was in response to my post. I wasn't trying to rip Deibler. I was trying to make fun of the haters.

A lot of people had unrealistic expectations for Deibler out of high school, I think. He did play like a freshman, but he has improved every year. I don't expect him to lead the team in scoring, but he is a heck of a shooter. And when the clock is winding down, there's nobody else I want to shoot the free throws.

I agree the bench should have been used more. Turner, Lighty and Diebler don't need to play 40 minutes in a game you are leading by double digits in the second half. A couple minutes out most likely isn't going to lose the game. Their upcoming schedule, with the exception of Butler, should allow lots of bench minutes, but still.

Bucks looked pretty good last night. Get a win on the road at Butler then survive the brutal Big Ten start and we could be pretty good.

Well, we can agree to disagree. But obviously Matta isnt' using his bench for a reason, he has NO confidence in them. Last nite was a MUCH needed win for OSU. FSU was ranked, in ACC. They needed it for a number of reasons. A 20pt lead can disappear quickly. I have seen it happen.
This time of year, there is enough time between games, enough time to get rest, etc, etc.
ONce the Big Ten rolls around, then I agree, Matta will have to use what little bench he has.
I was hopeful he would have a bench this year, and disappointed when Offut left for that reason.
As for last years comment about being worn down......OSU made the Big Ten finals, beat MSU on the way to doing that. I don't think they were worn out at all.
Ideally, sure it would be nice to have a bench. Realistically, it looks as though OSU will be only about 7/8 deep.
Again, IMO, this isn't the NBA. These guys are young, in great shape and can play forever. IMO, the only issue is possibly foul trouble.

I don't care how young you are, a college basketball season is a grind when you are playing that many minutes. It's a fact.

OSU was up 20, there is absolutely no reason to not use your bench. Hell in the last couple of minutes Matta didn't even want to take his guys out.

A team with 3 guys playing 40 minutes a game will wear down much quicker than a team playing 8-9 guys. That's common sense.


OSU has 3 guys who Matta is relying on for 40 minutes a night. That's not good.

Although I do agree that last night's minutes is a game you can make up. OSU has some cupcakes coming up where Matta can work his bench, and hopefully he does.

My exact point on earlier post. There are game when Matta will have to play those 3 40 min. There are games when he can sneak the subs in.
Last Sat., Matta had 4 of starters on bench with 11 min to go in game, they did not return. They were well rested for last nite. It all depends on who you play, and the matchups. There games he will be able to get away playing some bench guys...and games that he cannot take that chance. Thats the reality of it. Is there really a difference in playing 33 min compared to 40? Not in my book. There is enough time between most games to get well rested. He may not be able to go as hard in practice..thats the time to get some rest. Its not ideal, but it is what it is. Starting next year, depth/bench will not be a problem.

I think we agree for the most part. But my fear is that Matta has absolutely no confidence in his bench and he won't use them, as witnessed by a 20 point lead and unwilling to sit your starters for a few minutes. Not only is it good to get your starters the rest, but also you need to get your bench guys some experience if you are ever planning on using them for meaningful minutes.

And I disagree with the difference between 40 minutes and 33 minutes. I think that's a huge difference.
