We all know the Reds could get better in LF, and at short (offensively), but on John Fay's Insider, he posted an article talking about how the Reds should make a trade for Zack Greinke. This would solidify the Reds' young rotation by giving them a legitimate ace. It talks about how he would make a reasonable salary for the next two years before he would sign another (fairly larger) contract. By that time, the Reds young pitchers will have hopefully developed into the stars we all hope they can be. It suggests trading Stubbs and Alonso. I would be okay with that considering Alonso will never play for the Reds in the bigs, and Stubbs could be replaced by Heisey. Unloading Harang's big contract makes this a definite possibility. What do you guys think?

I don't buy Greinke as being a legitimate ace and I am certainly not going to trade the farm for a guy like him. He's had one "ace-like" season in 7 years. Other than that he's been pretty comparable to a guy like Arroyo. If I'm trading for a young stud pitcher it's going to be Felix Hernandez.

I think people are seriously underestimating how good Stubbs is going to be this year.
Saying a guy like Heisey can replace him (and I love Heisey) is laughable.

Stubbs will be a top 5 CF shortly. Very shortly.

I'm not saying Heisey is going to be as good as Stubbs...He's not nearly as fast, and doesn't have the pop in his bat, but I do think he'll have a comparable OBP and maybe a better average. Stubbs is going to be a stud, but I think Heisey will also be very good.
I've always liked Greinke..I've felt bad for him because he's had to play for the Royals, and I know his numbers have slipped the past few years, but he wants to play for a smaller market team and will have a lot more confidence with a solid offense behind him. I dunno...It would be worth looking at.

They don't have the money to pay another starting pitcher now that Arroyo is coming back. They don't need another starter either. Fay just wants to stir up some interest in himself.

Actually, the post was not even made by Fay and it was simply a link to the Sports Illustrated article.
The Reds no longer have Harang's 12.5 mil and Greinke is making 13.5 over the next two seasons, which the writer was proposing the Reds keep him for two seasons until the Reds young pitchers have developed.

That 12.5 mil is going to players already on the roster. Arroyo, Phillips, Gomes get raises. Bruce, Volquez and Cueto will get a significant amount in arbitration, and Votto will make a ton.

I don't trust Grienke. He's got a screw loose, go back and read the SI feature on him a few years back

Yeah, I dunno if they are gonna shell out the money for another starter. I was kinda hoping that if they did spend money that it would be for a LF. Thought about Werth, then remembered his terrible avg with runners in scoring position last season. Who knows what they're gonna do

I agree with Dusty, they should go after Gary Pettis or Omar Moreno.
