Pretty much a done deal that Charlie Weis will be fired, even as early as tomorrow. So I ask who will take over? Personally, I think it will be Bob Stoops but I'd prefer Urban Meyer.
PS: If you answer "other" in the poll, post who you think it will be.

A poll isn't coming up on my screen.
But to answer your question, based on all the rumblings I think it's going to be Stoops. I really, really hope it's true.

Bob Stoops..I really don't have a doubt in my mind it'll be Stoops...they're gonna throw money at him like he wouldn't believe.

Pat Fitzgerald just signed a 7 year extension at Northwestern. He's repeatedly stated that he has absolutely no interest in the Notre Dame job and wants to stay at Northwestern until he retires. I don't think he's a realistic option here.

Yea that's what we need. Another over rated NFL coach. I'm praying we get Stoops.

Tony Dungy is not overrated, if anything he is underrated. I just don't think he is the right guy for ND at this time. I'd say he is pretty happy with what he is doing with his life now.

Why the hell would Bob Stoops leave Oklahoma to coach at Notre Dame?
Mark Snyder is available.

That's a question that's been posed many times on here the last few days and one that is likely to be answered if he is the next head coach of the Fighting Irish.Chesapeake wrote: Why the hell would Bob Stoops leave Oklahoma to coach at Notre Dame?

It will be Bob Stoops. Brian Kelly will sit tight for another year, possibly waiting for the Michigan job to open.
ND will NOT repeat the NFL mistake again.
Venables doesn't follow Stoops to Oklahoma, becoming the Head Coach @ OU is my guess

Sounds like Bob Stoops will be. Now that will be better than Charlie Weis, we'll see if he can get Notre Dame to the top of college football and see if he can get them to be considered a top program once again.
I think it will be an uphill battle, but Stoops has been successful at OK (despite the bowl losses) and could be the best hire since Holtz (if they hire him).

Its Bob Stoops.
Brian Kelly would have crawled to ND, but ND can't afford a risk.
Oh great, Chesepeake is here....

The only coach that can turn that program around is Jim Tressel and he's not going to go down a level in coaching to take the job, no matter how much they throw at him.

I'd go with Stoops. It's a good match for them both. ND needs a big name to continue being taken seriously (you combine a currently-mediocre program with a coach without a big national resume and that's basically conceding you're rebuilding, which never is good when you have the huge following they have combined with their own network in NBC).
It also works for Stoops because, while an excellent coach, he's lost a good number of big games in the recent past and this season was a big disappointment. Obviously, the loss of Bradford was the main reason for this, but the bigger your program is, the less likely fans will tolerate ANY excuse for losing.
It's the perfect combination: a big-name coach for them and a viable "change of scenery" for him if he's feeling heat due to those big-game losses.

Very good post. I'd add the loss of Tight End Jermaine Gresham as pretty big too but as you said....the bigger the program....a lesser tolerance for excuses. And while Stoops' teams have come up short recently in their "biggest" games.....they did kick a lot of ranked ass (at time of game and/or final polls) last season. But, point taken and good post.Heretic wrote: I'd go with Stoops. It's a good match for them both.
