Just giving you a hard time.

Remember when MSU lost in an exhibition and was really good? So did 'Cuse....exhibitions really don't matter at all.

If I were you, I'd be concerned if X is losing games that actually matter for something.

Yea there have been a few high profile loses by D1's to D2's. The thing is that some of the elite D2 schools like Findlay and Grand Valley (who beat Michigan State) are actually going to be better than a lot of the teams on the early season schedules for most teams.

Plus these exhibitions are the super bowls for some of the teams, while the big schools are trying to find the right mix and rotation of players.

I usually dont even pay attention to the scores of the IU exhibitions, just look to see how individual players play.

Yes, but one could argue that a D1 bench player in theory should be better than his D2 counterpart guarding him.

As freshmen, yes. But then you have to factor in player development, experience and coaching.

I know when Grand Valley beat Michigan State they had a guy who was first team AA that was committed to Michigan as a senior in HS, but couldn't qualify for the D1 standards, but did qualify academically for D2.

True, but talent and effort are 2 very distinct things when discussing pre-season exhibitions.

Ha I won't lie it'll be weird seeing subs come in for the Buckeyes. I mean if we could make the Sweet 16 with the same roster setup as the Hickory Huskers we have a shot to take the pudding this year

haha. I was thinking the same thing. I like the Color analysts voice, but that PxP guy, unfortunately for him, does not have a voice conducive to sports commentating.

EDIT: Ok Matt Syl is the color analyst. He has a really good voice for broadcasting.

I do feel bad. I remember my very first broadcast and it was tough. This kid has to be extremely nervous knowing he is broadcasting for the Big Ten Network. But at some point it just becomes habit, and you HAVE TO KNOW YOUR TEAM. I mean, you are always gonna struggle with the opponent, but when your team has the ball or your team makes a play it should be pretty much seamless and not have any sort of speech stumbles.

He is also sounding like radio too often. Im not sure if he is usually on radio and not TV (dont know OSUs student media stuff), but you dont call every action of play on TV like radio, just commentate on it.

I agree with you, Laley. I've never done TV -- and I can't imagine how nervous you'd be for your Big Ten Network debut -- but a friend of mine and I did commentating for a NW Ohio radio station in Fostoria for awhile a few years back, doing both high school football and basketball, and I certainly understand the process.

But, yeah, the kid should have his own team down pat by now. The Sylvester (the color man) kid knows his stuff and does have a good voice. He looks to be on his way. Unfortunately for Boom II, he sounds like Michael Cera about to engage in intercourse (circa Super Bad) -- and that's something I refuse to watch my games to haha.

That 12 year old is my fellow broadcaster Alex Kopilow hahahaha.

For the record, Alex is doing the game because I had a sore throat yesterday and told the B10 network I had to find a sub, that's why when I broadcasted the game for radio I only did color, and very little of it.

And in Alex's defense, they didn't have a monitor in front of them, the B10 network basically told him he had to do it like radio, BUT it was Alex's first time on TV.


ALSO, NOT ALL OF US AT STUDENT RADIO SOUND LIKE ALEX. ;)

WTF Big Ten? How the FUCK is anyone supposed to do a broadcast without a monitor. You have no clue what the viewer is seeing to comment on it. SMMFH at the Big Ten Network on that one. It literally takes a TV, extension cord, and a BNC cable to have a monitor set up for your broadcasters. That is some piss-poor, cheap running of a company.

Im also not trying to knock Alex, because as I mentioned my first TV broadcast I resorted to the comfort of radio broadcasting (which I had been doing for 5 yrs up to that point). But he is really struggling going to breaks and commenting on his own team, which shouldnt be too tough. I will say, the production as a whole is better than Illinois', even though their PxP guy was better. I dont know if you all did the production or just the broadcasters, but the production in general at Ill was turrible. Their clock cam was on the court at one point (ie, not in the graphic bug at the bottom of the screen lol).

Laley, basically we only do radio. The athletic department approached us a couple weeks ago to see if we had anyone who would want to broadcast for the Big 10 network, it was only the second time we had been on TV (we did a baseball game last year).

I PM'd you to tell you some things that I don't the public to see.

Got the PM, and thats all well and good.

My issue is that the BTN wouldnt provide the announcers a monitor. It is basically impossible to put together a good broadcast if you dont know what the cameramen are shooting or what graphics are being put on the screen.
