Early in the 2nd quarter, Smith scored on a 90 yard TD pass, making it 7-0. The play before that he fielded a punt, and, from what I heard, took the hit to the head that caused the concussion. The TD pass was his last play of that game. Girard score again mid 2nd quarter after an interception return back to the 10 yard line. Manchester regrouped at half, commited to the ground game and won 21-14. That was a young Manchester team growing up real fast. Coach France showed why he has 333 all time wins, he managed the sophomore QB very well.

Look at Manchester’s better opponents to get a feel for their defense.

Triway – 22 points, all in the air, had an all-state caliber QB and WR. May have gained 40 yards on the ground, about 20 carries. Would have scored more if the WR had not been injured.

Triway offense vs. Manchester:
Rushing: 17 rush attempts, 17 rush yards, 0 TD
Passing: 28 completions, 48 attempts, 347 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT
Sawyer Polen (WR): 10 receptions, 142 yards, 1 TD (in first half; got injured in middle of 2nd quarter & didn't return)
6 kickoff returns, 80 kickoff return yards
0 punt returns (1 punt fair caught)
2 fumbles, 1 fumble lost

Manchester's defense is very good against the run. With the exception of CVCA not many teams have succeeded running the ball too well on Manchester.

Gentlemen this is the bottom line. We don't have a clue what is going to happen on Friday. That is why they are going to play.

The comparisons are a waste of time. Especially the Girard one. It's week twelve fellas. Not week one. Both teams have matured alot I bet. Campbell lost in my opinion their best player in week 2. He was a game changer all on his own. But they rallied around our tailback and some never say die moments this season and have fought the good fight. What is scary is that we are loaded with talent. I can sit here and tell you all about how fast we are, how tough we played on defense last week and how good of a kicker we have. I can tell you how well our two LB's slash FB's have played and if we are clicking on offense we can put up 51 points. I can tell you that if you are not careful any one of 7 guys will beat you. I can tell you we are very big upfront with a couple of 300 pounders and on defense a couple of big and very fast linemen.

Akron can do the same. They can tell us all day about their defense and a QB that has come into his own. They can tell us about a coach who flat out wins games....more than 300 now.

All of the info does nothing more than set the anticipation levels high. It does not give us a clear look at who has the advantage. Neither team fan base has a clue what to expect Friday. I would like to think we have a very good chance. But what I think and what will transpire are two different things.....or are they. ;)

Good luck Campbell.
This is the young man we lost folks. He is by far one of the fastest kids I have ever seen in my life and trust me....I have clocked alot of kids the past 7 years. He is not a big kid but has a big heart. The fact he is not out there is a shame. He flat out changes the whole game. But I have to tell you, I could not be prouder of the way his team said no way do we hang our heads now. Now we fight. This is truely a memorable season in Campbell football history.

it would have been great to have skev out there...he truly is a game breaker, and his talent matched with J'ales would have been a scary combination. Get well soon young man. To Campbell's credit not one second did they hang their head they responded like great teams do. This team has a ton of character which is why they are in week 12. It will take a whole lot more of it in the upcoming weeks to keep it going. All in all I expect a great game friday. Hopefully everyone is healthy, and everyone traveling to and from the game are safe....good luck to all

We Campbell Memorial fans have great respect for the Ironton Tigers and the entire community of Ironton. I hear nothing but good things about Campbell's trips down to the Ironton Classic basketball tournament. I believe Campbell is going down to Ironton again this hoop season. And who can forget the D-3 state championship football game between Ironton and Campbell back in 1989. I still remember how tough that Ironton team was on defense. They stopped the vaunted Campbell sweep in that game. The Tigers were led by a stud linebacker named Heath Brownstead.

The Girard fans did that too. "Beat Akron" a sign said. Manchester is only known as Akron Manchester outside of Akron. It is Manchester, or both. We do not represent all of Akron. :D

At this time of year it usually comes down to who can run the football. The winner of this game will be the one who can run the ball and stop the other team from running the ball. It should be interesting. Good Luck Red Devils!
