Because the media and their fans still think they are an elite great program and it is hilarious to watch for many. It is the fall from greatness that people like to see. Personally, I don't really care too much about them, but I do know that Tate is a player out there.

Make no mistake, nobody said that they were irrelevant. You're ignorant fans just perceived it that way because we don't consider the Cotton Bowl a Tier 1 bowl prior to the BCS, like the 1992 Sugar Bowl, which was actually impressive.

Mediocrity doesn't mean much in the NCAA. Since Lou Holtz left, that's all ND has ever been.

I'm kind of hoping my Ohio Bobcats get matched-up against ND in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl if the Bobcats lose to Central Michigan. I think ND would struggle big time to beat Ohio.

And if you're directing that Cotton Bowl comment at me.....I simply pointed out that once upon a time....the Cotton Bowl was a pretty prestigious Bowl game. Now granted, that was a long time ago and I'm not hanging my hat on that, but just being honest and letting you know that. ND's failures over the last decade and a half have been well documented. I never said the Cotton Bowl was a Tier 1 Bowl, but it was one of the top 2nd tier Bowls at one time. So that somehow makes me ignorant? Please elaborate.

ND will always be important to college football. They are like the Yankees....you either love them or hate them.

i have been searching for florida state threads all day, and coincidentally, still havent managed to come across one...

hence, the "irrelevant" train wreck that is the notre dame program must fascinate and still, intrigue the masses. which as a notre dame fan, i find extremely amusing while at the same time extremely satisfying.

just imagine all the hype that could be surrounding a "relevant" notre dame program.

Read the threads, and you'll see my comments are directed towards Karen Lotz, Rock Knutne, Mr Pat, and a couple other ND fans that feel that because they are on a 1 game bowl streak (against Hawaii), and 1-9 since 1994, that it's more impressive than losing 3 straight BCS games, but at least having BCS wins, and not having a losing season since God knows how long.

The Cotton Bowl argument was because I said that they haven't had a huge, impressive bowl win since 1992 in the Sugar Bowl, which has always been a Tier 1 bowl. Not that the Cotton Bowl isn't impressive, but it's nowhere near the same bowl like it was in the 70's and 80's.

The ignorance of the ND fans on the huddle is the ones who want OSU fans to "point out the facts" that OSU is on a losing streak and ND is on a bowl winning streak, but won't acknowledge the fact that ND was 1-9 in this last 10 bowl games, and are 2 seasons removed from a 3 win season.

Not to mention, usually only teams with BCS victories hate on teams that have BCS victories, but are on losing streaks.

If you're one of those legit ND fans that doesn't hate on a team that has proven 10x more than them, then I apologize.

But if you think that OSU has done nothing, and that ND is more impressive, especially over the last 10-15 years, then you're ignorant.

The whole Cotton Bowl thing was something that you and I debated last night so that's why I figured you directed some of that at me. I think that I am a pretty reasonable and realistic fan. I call it both ways. I can give ND and others credit and I can criticize my team (and occasionally others) when I think it's warranted. We can agree to disagree about the Cotton Bowl. It was still a pretty big bowl in the early 90's IMO. I don't consider myself an ignorant fan. I can have knowledgeable and civil discussions/debates with others if they can do the same.

If you don't think the Cotton Bowl was a big game then you're not old enough to remember it, it's as simple as that. Pre BCS stuff is hard for some to legitimize.

It was a big game... In the 70's and 80's... It became a Tier 2 game in the 90's. It become what the Capital One Bowl is now.

The only thing that makes Notre Dame relevant is their fans that like to claim how they are still relevant. Seriously, its so easy to root against Notre Dame with their fans and their refusal to join a conference and get with the times in college football because it wouldn't allow them to keep their special deal with NBC and all the special clauses in the BCS contract where Notre Dame can get a BCS bowl by finishing in the top 25 of the BCS standings or whatever. Win or lose, ND is always on the front page and never more so than this last month. It's all about the money and ratings, it's simliar to Howard Stern's ratings........for the tons of fans who love ND there's twice as many who tune in to watch them lose and the networks make a killing off of it. You want ND to lose that NBC contract, then I suggest the haters quit watching.

I remember when ND was considered a top team in the early 90's and before that I was envious of them. Now I pity them and their fans. It's reminds me of a high school jock that can't face the facts that he is no longer the big man on campus.

Can ND get there? Yes, with the right coach and staff. But until then, no one should really be talking about any accomplishments of ND unless they are remembering the days of Holtz, Rockne, Devine and Parseghian. Because that is the last time they had any accomplishments worth talking about.
