I would like to start using the crock pot more. Does anyone have any good recipes to share and or tips for crock pots you have discovered.

try making sloppy/shredded chicken
take about 5-6 cans of canned chicken breast and put in crock pot with chicken broth and a can of campbells cream of chicken soup....let it cook for about an hour while stirring about every ten minutes.....season to your taste w/salt pepper etc..... and add crackers or chips to thicken it. you can add more soup or broth or crackers to get a nice consistancy to put on sandwhiches..... makes a nice dish for nfl sundays and gets better as the day goes on...

Almost every Saturday or Sunday this time of year I want to get it out and try something new. Thanks for starting the topic!
I have a recipe book with a few good things, but I'll see what recommendations OC nation has.

I was also going to say shredded chicken. My mom uses croutons to thicken hers and everyone loves it. She doesn't use chicken broth, though. Just one big can of boned chicken, a can of soup and the croutons.Gblock;541917 wrote:try making sloppy/shredded chicken

yes its not an exact science i dont always use the chicken broth but lately i have been making it in a very large crocpot and as the day goes on it starts to get dry so i add a some broth as well....i have used several different types of ingredients and have seen it made other ways and its always good imo....one of the best croc pot dishes out there. i love going to hs sporting events where they have it i get it everytime.

It is a staple near my hometown. When we moved up here (near Akron) no one had heard of it. My mom took it to a pot luck and everyone was afraid to try it but as soon as they did they loved it. Some of my sisters friends come over when they are home on winter break just to have some. My bestie also loves it...I try to tell her how easy it is to make but things do tend to taste better when someone else makes them for you, lol.

I'm trying this one this week:
Take 4-6 chicken breasts and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Place in the bottom of the crock pot. Mix together 2 cans cream of chicken soup and 1 can cheddar cheese soup. Pour mixture over the chicken breasts. Cook on low for 6-8 hours. Serve over rice or noodles.

This sounds really good, but it kinda defeats the purpose of a crock pot for me. Seems like it would be just as easy to do on the stove top. I want something that I can start in the morning, and it be ready to eat when I get home after work. Though I will definitely have to try this sometime!!Gblock;541917 wrote:try making sloppy/shredded chicken

You can make it on the stove but a lot of times we will have it sitting on warm all day when we have people over. You just put the ingedients in and walk away. I think there are a lot of similar recipes...we can make roast, cheesy potatoes, etc in the oven but the crock pot is sometimes easier.

no you can just put it in there and leave it really......it gets better the longer you leave it in there...the chicken gets extra tender and starts to shred

IF you don't have a smoker, do a pork shoulder in there. Rub it in whatever you like (I do my own w/ paprika, brown sugar, cayenne, cumin, salt and pepper), put about an inch of water and a splash of apple cider vinegar in the bottom of the pot, and put it in on low for 10-12 hours. The last 15-20 minutes add a bit of your favorite BBQ sauce. Smoker is the way to go, but this is a decent alternative for those of us with no porches/backyards.

Baked Steak
Put steak in pot on low heat
Mix 1 can of cream of muchroom soup,1 packet of onion soup mix, and 1 cup of water in a bowl and pour over meat.
Cook on low for 8-10 hrs.
I'm actually having this today. The meat just falls apart when done.

My wife puts Stove Top stuffing in to thicken up the chicken. Delicious.

Thread bomber pizza chili.
2 lb chuckroast
2 cans chili beans
2 cans red kindey beans
2 cans dark kidney beans
1 bottle heinz chili sauce
1 12 oz tomaroe sauce
1/4 cup chili powder
2 tblsp black pepper
2 tsp cayenne pepper
1 med onion diced
1-12 pk of favorite beer.
Put chuck roast in bottom and cover with all ingerdients exept beer (use only one can of beer)
Put in crock pot, cook on low for 8 hours.
Drink 3 cans of beer while waiting on chili to cook. (reserve 8 cans of beer).
After 8 hours, shred chuck roast in pot. ( this will be easy cause it will fall apart with a fork)
turn crock pot OFF.
Call pizza guy and have him deliver your favorite pizza. ( don't drive, you have been drinking beer)
Eat pizza and drink 3 beers.
Take chili out of pot and put in fridge.
Next day, reheat chili and eat with remaining 5 beers. (you can add another six or twelve pack to taste) The chili ALWAYS tastes better the next day!

Buffalo Chicken Dip
Bunch of chicken breasts
Bottle of Ranch dressing
2 packages cheddar cheese
Bottle Buffalo wing sauce
Bottle of beer
- Cook the chicken in the beer for 8 hours until it starts falling apart (we usually put it in before we go to bed so its ready when we wake up). Drain the beer and shred chicken with a fork. Add cheese, ranch and wing sauce. Add as much as you want to taste, I usually end up using all of it. We eat it with home made tortilla chips.

I never had anything good or special come out of a Crock Pot cooking method.... if anything we use our Crock Pot as a method to keep soup warm, heating up chile and warming dip ............other than that it is worthless cooking method...
There is nothing you can't do on the top of a stove with a good thick bottom pot that a Crock Pot can do.
