Gerhart is a fine college running back but won't translate to the NFL, unless he plays fullback.

But Golden Tate was the best player on the field tonight. He's simply unreal. I've watched a lot of great WR's this year, but I was most impressed by Tate. His ability to come get the ball midair, make people miss, and soft hands are all extremely impressive.

I do think you're wrong about Gerhart. He may not have blazing speed, but he had adequate speed, a whole lot of power, and all heart.

In my opinion, I don't think Gerhart has the athleticism to succeed as a TB. I'm not a Gerhart hater, in fact, I've loved him since I was Stanford as a dynasty in NCAA '09, and drafted him on my fantasy college team this year. But I'm a realist. There are plenty of guys who are much more athletic than Gerhart who haven't panned out in the NFL.

Why does Gerhart need more athleticism in the NFL than NCAA? Because the tackling in the NFL is infinitely better than NCAA. And what running back in the NFL do you see use a knee brace that's successful? The fact he already has some knee issues doesn't bode well either. Yes Willis McGahee came back from a knee injury, but he's a lot more athletic than Gerhart. Gerhart thrives on breaking tackles in the NCAA that he won't be able to break in the NFL.

I think Gerhart is pretty athletic. Nothing wrong with a bruising running back who has good speed and great vision.

I absolutely love watching Golden Tate play. Here's hoping whoever the new coach is able to convince him to stay around!

IMO, Golden Tate has been the best player on the field in every game he has played this season.

I'm not sure Gerhart doesn't have the speed to be a great nfl back. He has run, according to reports, anywhere from 4.48 to 4.55. He is similar(although much better at this point) to former Stanford back Tommy Vardell. A little faster and more athletic than Vardell was. That said, it probably doesn't matter where he fits in the NFL. He's likely to be playing pro baseball.

Whats his 40 time( i know its not important but to the NFL and drafting players it sure is) Id assume in the high 4.5 range maybe low 4.6
The "motor that never stops" thing is about the most generic compliment for a football player. Sure he works hard so do 99% of college football players.

Id venture to say hes the 3rd or 4th best pro RB prospect in the Pac 10

Yeah you are right the Defenses were a lot better in Riggins day and there were fewer teams that SUCKED than now.

Point being back then it was a perfect time for a big bruising not blazingly quick RB to thrive. Now the NFL is geared much more towards speed and athleticism

And Cedric Benson is having 1 good year, i fully expect him to fizzle out again, as he started his career.
Brandon Jacobs isnt exactly having a stellar year either. Gerhart has size yes....but lets not compare that with Jacobs size.

I'm just pointing out where a player is a perfect fit(by your definition) to thrive in the NFL and has been a relative bust. While there are plenty of big bruiser backs who are doing fine.

By the way, who are the better prospects?

Not saying theyre having or have had better college careers. But I think scouts will see them as better

Best....I'll give you that one.

McKnight...seriously? He hasn't lived up anywhere to the hype. He was supposed to be the next Reggie Bush, and is no where close. On top of that, Reggie hasn't exactly flourished like everybody though he would. Plus he has a fumbling problem and that will hurt is draft stock.

Blount....a big bruising back hmmmmm.....I thought you said the NFL was about speed. Add to the fact that the guy will only have played one game in the last year and half(by draft time) and obviously has character issues(besides the Boise State game), and I don't see any way a team takes a big chance early on him.

Best is easily the cream of the crop.


Mcknight is a flashy RB that Gm's seem to love picking up and taking chances on. Im not saying he'll pan out better then Gerhart because honestly the only one I see that for is Best, but I would not be surprised if hes picked above Gerhart. If he declares that is.

Thats why I said id put Gerhart above Blount, sitting out a whole year pretty much screws you. I dont think either Gerhart or Blount is going before the 4th or 5th round anyways
