Got crazy here in Fairfield County for a few. Winds, rains, and several trees down as well as signs like for sale signs types blowing all over. Power flashed a few times but stayed on. Pretty crazy day. Glad we got some rain though.

I'm with webfire! Totally blown out of proportion! All these tornado "warnings" are a joke!! If the conditions are "favorable for a tornado" then issue a "watch" not a warning! No!!!! Now we have to CYA! If these people keep issuing "warnings" because their little fancy dancy radar says the wind is swirling, eventually people will start calling it BS, and then when there really is a tornado, nobody will pay attention!
Today was the equivalent of the............ "MONSTER SNOW STORM!!!!!!!, 12- 25 FEET OF SNOW GOING TO FALL ON OHIO!!!!!!!........ and after the day is over I can still see all the grass in my yard and there is a 1" deep by 1' long drift in the corner of my sidewalk!
Meteorologists suck! You all can go fly a kite in your stinkin "wind storm"

Ratings baby, Ratings. That's all it is. WSAZ was putting up warnings every 5 minutes it seems and all we got was a good downpour for about 10 minutes. No winds hardly at all. The more they scare people and get them to watch the tv, the better.

Shane, Here is the reports page. If you didn't get damage then be happy. With over 270 reports and many many more to come consider yourself lucky.

I woke up at 1130am and the Wife said we have a Tornado Warning. I turned on the TV see see the local weather and the storms weren't even close to where we were. The sirens went of a couple of times, from my county and the county I'm right next to, at 1220pm. The 5 minutes of rain didn't hit until 100pm. An hour and 1/2 notice on a Tornado Warning is usually unheard of.

Maybe your wife and my wife are the same? They both don't know the difference between a watch and a warning! They have to issue them early as the storms were cruising at 50-60mph that doesn't give you much time.

The map looks impressive, but even so, there are a lot of unnecessary tornado warnings, IMO.

My wife grew up in Nebraska and Kansas so I know for a fact she does know the difference between a watch and a warning. Like I said an hour in a half early is pretty much unheard of for a tornado warning, but that's what occured today.gerb131;534042 wrote:Maybe your wife and my wife are the same? I watched the Weather Dude on TV freak out every time the radar spoted some sort of rotation, it was almost comicial at times.

Was not that bad in St Paris. Pretty windy for a bit and some rain, didn't even lose power. Storm came and went.

Never said anything about damage or lack there of. Only that news coverage has gone WAY, WAY overboard in the last couple of years and that eventually people will stop paying attention to it! Stop with the "we're all going to die" beacuse of a snow storm, or a wind storm etc!!

In the school district I work for in NW Ohio, we went on lock down and allowed for students to leave/picked up by family before the storm hit based off the events that happened in June in the area. In the elementary schools alone, there were over 100 early pick ups. Blown way out of proportion.

They locked down some schools in the Cincy area. Some schools even canceled afternoon Kindergarten.

Got to watch my tree in the backyard get blown over by two very very strong gusts. I know some people thought all the warning was overboard but with 24 tornadoes, It seamed to be right on spec. Like gerb said the SPC doesn't issue HIGH risk warnings for our area unless they are serious. If you don't think Tornadoes are serious go look at the mile wide path of destruction crossing the Ohio river. I don't like to stare and look at others misfortunes but the F3 that happened a month or so ago is quite amazing and intriguing. Tornadoes aren't prejudice towards hills like everyone once thought either.

It needs to be localized though. A tornado in Indiana doesn't mean my county should be under a warning when there is no indication of a tornado anywhere. I think there were 3 small tornadoes in Ohio yesterday, and there sure were a helluva lot more warnings than that!

didn't see this posted yet, but did everyone hear that the low pressure associated with this front in Minnesota was the lowest recorded reading in the US, replacing the previous record from the '78 blizzard recorded near Cleveland.
the local readings also were among the historical lowest recorded barometric lows.
all I know is the dog was crazed.

They were localized though, The sirens in my county didn't go off until right before the storm. The linear storms are not usually good at producing tornadoes but this line was different. It was capable of producing a Tornado in a moments notice. That's why millions of dollars are spent on research and the warning systems. The biggest brunt of the warnings were only associated with one particular area of the Line, where it was producing a very large hook echo. It is usually a given in a hook echo that there is at least one tornado or more.
With the amount of wind shear yesterday not predicting any tornadoes would have been a dumb move in my eyes.

Whoa! Big difference between predicting and warning! Tornado watch was in effect and that was enough unless there was need for a warning. But counties were getting warned before the storm even reached them! I understand the need for advanced warning, but my definition of a warning is that it is happening, not that it COULD happen. That is what the watch is for.
And actually, my gripe with this storm wasn't really the tornado warnings anyway. It was all the hype by forecasters and the high wind warnings for 10 hours, when it was only warning type wind for all of 5 minutes. Seemed it almost created some panic for something that was nothing more than heavy rain with a small window of high wind.
Now, obviously there were pockets of winds that were worse and warranted any warnings issued. But it just seems that the weather service tends to get a bit excited sometimes, and like stated above, it can almost have the opposite effect. I know many people that don't even acknowledge winter weather warnings anymore because they are so ridiculously off sometimes.
