Trying to find a link, but someone on Rivals reported that a radio show reported on this this morning.

I think I've heard it all now.

Thoughts?

A good majority of injuries come from kickoffs.

FWIW, I still cannot find a source for this, so I question the accuracy of it. Sounds like a dumb idea to me.

Doesn't much matter. They are going to outlaw the whole game before no time. Enjoy football while you can.

Might as well get rid of punts too. Just make it so you have to go for it on 4th every time.

I believe there will soon be lawsuits by former NFL players being filed based on the inability carry on a normal life due to the impacts of playing in the NFL. The commissioner knows they are coming or we are leading up to this happening.

These rule changes and/or investigative efforts to make the game more "safe" is being done in preparation of creating a defense that the NFL has shown measurable signs of doing everything they can to make the game as safe as possible.

It doesn't mean things like the kick-off will necessarily be eliminated but rather that the NFL has intentionally investigated all aspects of the game from a safety perspective. The reporting and publicity of these efforts is exactly what the NFL wants.

This is what happens when the NFL offices are full of Lawyers by trade. Helping a group of people that dont need or want it.

If coaches would teach and emphasize proper tackling, this wouldn't be a problem.

I also love how they cry about hits like this or unsportsmanlike conduct acts then turn around and only show the highlights of things like that over and over!

So they want to lengthen the season by 2 games, yet eliminate kickoffs due to injuries?

Does the NFL show those highlights or do the networks?

I watched the NFL.com Week 6 remix. They did not show the big hit on Jackson, but they showed several others that were the same thing, just didn't result in the big hit. They showed the big hit on Hester's punt return. They showed QBs being driven into the dirt.

Eliminating the kickoff and helmet to helmet hits might say otherwise. Fans love the big hits and big contact.

Thats insane. Do it backyard style and have someone throw it up in the air or some shit. You just can't win a coin toss and start at the 20, this would f the game up.

I'd love for somebody to ask this question to Goodell

No, lawsuits stemming from NOT doing this say otherwise.

Interesting.

Were any of those "several others" helmet to helmet??

I'd have to watch again, but the one on Jackson was not helmet-to-helmet.
