Where do you draw the line between rap and hip hop? Are they the same thing? If not, what makes them different? Is pure rap still around or is it now all hip hop?

Rap is more of the bling bling, money, cash, cars, hoes type of music. Unfortunately Rap is more mainstream also. Hip hop has a more depth and more lyricism than Rap. Rap is more about the beat than lyrical content.

Hip-Hop tells more of a story and is about the life and times of the artists etc. Hip-Hop in its earliest form was some of the best stuff, Grandmaster Flash and the Message is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Hip-Hop is still the whole culture. From the clothing, to the graffiti, to the music, to everything. Rap....it just kind of morphed from the songs and made them worse. Not that I hate all Rap, because I dont, but they are not the same, and for my money, Hip-Hop is better and takes more skill.

I don't know if I feel like my questions has been answered.... Maybe make a list of artists in each category...that might help. What is most of the music on the radio today? Rap or Hip-Hop?
