I wish Ohio teams would have the guts to schedule them, they are a great football program.
Most of the local teams have already dumped us . Indian Creek last year and we traded Bucktel for McKeesport. We still played three other OVAC teams from WVA . Its not like we doge a bunch of Ohio teams . Playoffs are coming

The reason they come here is mainly money. Over the years we have quaranteed $2- $3 thousand to these schools. They never draw that many people to their games so our venue looks good to them. Inkster probably draws a few hundred people to their games so, they play most if not all their games on the road. Buchtel is another team that travels. Back when Cleveland Glenville was called the Tarblooders, we opened with them every year. Cleveland teams would start their games on Saturday morning and play throughout the day. No crowds or money there so they jumped at the chance to play away.Darkon;521540 wrote:I believe Steubenville shares some of the money. Someone in the know can give a better answer on the money thing.
Look at that Ursuline crowd last night. Did not even fill one section on the visitor's side while our side was packed. The Baltimore and Buffalo teams come here and maybe bring a few hundred fans. But it is a nice trip for the team. Bottom line is all of the out of state teams we schedule bring almost no fans, so the money they can't make at home, they pick up here.
Now you see more and more teams playing out of state teams to fill out their schedules.

Ursuline may be the best team in the state. They can play with anyone, because very few teams beat up on Steubenville like the Irish did. Steubenville year in year out is one of the states top programs.

Maybe, but last I heard, Steubenville wasn't giving out scholarships and financial aid.

Nor were they charging tuition. Open enrollment students arrive with a tax voucher to the district.skank;522136 wrote:Maybe, but last I heard, Steubenville wasn't giving out scholarships and financial aid.

And "scholarship recipients" arrive with a fresh opportunity at getting a free education....As long as you can tackle that is.

Don't they HAVE to take you into the district if you move into the district?

First off congrats to UHS on an impressive win.
What is so surprising to everyone about our losses, I knew from the first couple of games this was going to happen somewhere along the line. We just finished six straight years with excellent QB & skill position play. We do not have it this year & we won't have it next year.
We have a RB that is tough as nails but is 5'2" w/o much speed. HELLO Big Red O Coordinator, quit running him to the outside, it works like 0.043% of the time. Our QB is a WR not a QB, has zero touch & really does not look like he knows what he is doing. Plus his pass protection has something to be desired.
The D is fine but is on the field too long, too often & the longer the game went on the more opportunities UHS's big uglies got to pound away so MR. Teague could run like the wind.
I hear really good things about Marlington from people in the know, we beat them by 8 last year with a skilled QB. Stop our run up the middle & unless the D is scoring we are toast.

Hey Smartguy, according to the Ohio Department of Education Dover has statewide open enrollmnent, just as Big Red does, so maybe if you're not getting anyone, then no one wants to come to Dover.

-should have added "on the team"
Dover allows open enrollment applications on a limited basis on the k-4 level. The problem isnt nobody wanting to come, the problem is being one of the top schools in the state and by far the best in the region (academics) a lot of folks want their kids to enter the system. Throughout the entire system their are only a handful of student that come from other places, and I believe a large majority are children of people who work for the district. If you do move to the district you are naturally entilted to enter the system, perhaps skank can enlighten us on who exactly he claims has doe this. My nephews play for Dover and I am pretty familiar with everyone, and not aware of a single case of anyone on the team that is a "move in". Last year we did have one player who had attended another district, and then Dover, it was a case of a divorced couple who lived in seperate districts.

Your typing skills confuse me as to what it is you want me to enlighten you on. "No open enrollment at Dover", those are your EXACT words, don't sit here and try to say "I meant on the team", I don't buy it, either you were trying to slip one by us, or you don't know your school system too well. We have a divorce situation kid on our team, who, just happens to be one of the better players, he lived with his mom in Akron, but moved in with his dad in Massillon, (dad also happens to be a Massillon grad), yet we caught alot of flak for it. I guess if he was a pine rider, nobody would give a rats hind end about it. Also, you may not have any kids this year, but please don't insult our intelligence, trying to make us believe this has never happened at Dover.

- also realize that I have not said there was anything wrong or illegal about the process. Your initial post was making the implication that Ursiline was a composite of a greater geographic region whereas Steubenville was not, which in fact is not the case. You then tried to make the case that Ursiline was somehow advantaged by offering "free education" and that somehow Steubenville was not, also, not the case.

You know as well as I do the reason for the 8 points last year.Anyways I do agree on the toast part.Let's go a little further though. This year come playoff time there will be no time when we can come on a thread against opposing fans and say "no chance".That's ok though I still love Big Red the brand and the kids who represent it.I do think we should move things around a bit and go ahead and throw Prather in there starting this week and see what happens.
