I didn't know OU students got up this early, or are you still up from the night before?
Who will be Dan Gilbert's Dirk Nowitzki? I think the Mavs being a great team every year has more to do with them having a top 10 NBA player on their team than their owner.

I agree, but I was countering the response that Gilbert isn't a good owner because of Marc Cuban (LMAO, what a fail).

How about the Knicks owner then?

And yea, maybe Gilbert proves to be willing to spend money, but that doesn't mean he will make smart decisions. Although some will disagree, Ferry as GM was a failure. He had a coach in Brown who he fires the year his superstar is testing free agency. He has overpaid for washed up free agents on several occasions.

Now, I don't think that means he will continue to do the same in the future, because he has a new coach (whom I love) and GM (whom I don't think highly of), so it will be interesting to see how things play out in the near future.

I do agree that you need a top 10 talent in the NBA to really be considered one of the good teams and it will be difficult for Cleveland to get one of those guys. That's why I find it interesting they would model themselves after the Pistons because they didn't necessarily have a top 10 player, but were successful

The point was that no matter how much Gilbert "cares" or spends, it doesn't matter. He can't buy a top pick, you have to get lucky. Cuban cares more than most owners and the Mavericks have never won anything

The Cavs finished with the best record in the league twice under Ferry. They went to to the playoffs, dominated the division, made the finals, made the ECF. I know they didnt get the job done but that doesnt mean he was a total failure. That seems a bit harsh. Thats like saying getting a B on a test is failure because the ultimate goal is an A. Its so easy to look back after the fact and make these statements. There were plenty of people in basketball that know the game much better than you or I who thought the Cavs were favorites the last couple years. Everybody is all over the Heat right now, if they dont win a title does that mean that Pat Riley was a failure?

Ferry was given the keys to a Ferrari and never drove it over 100 mph.

BTW has anyone seen pictures of the new Cavs team shop in the Q? Completely renovated and looks absolutely awesome. More evidence to the fact that Gilbert spends money on the Cavs. He's the best owner in Cleveland (though that's not saying much).

Yeah, its sick. Its things like this that have Cavs fans excited. I remember what it was like before Lebron, the ownership didnt do a damn thing to improve the organization. The Cavs are obviously gonna go through some tough times but I dont think its going to be as long as some people think. The organization is in good hands

I am just happy that the Gunds are dealing with this transition. I have all the confidence in the world in Gilbert and Co.
